Possibly relocating to Nacogdoches. Can anyone tell me about Nacogdoches? Climate, crime, barrel racing? THANK YOU!

I love East Texas! Nac is a college town, and like most towns it has some bad parts and some great parts of town. If you have kids in school, you will want to send them to one of the small surrounding schools (I am not a fan of Nac. ISD and I am a teacher). Climate is mild in the winter (it was 60 when I got up this morning), and hot in the summer. If you are a fan of the Kansas snow and cold, you will not get that here. We may get a light snow every couple of years. You can get all the barrel racing you want within an hour or two.

I went to college there. We called it Nac-a-no-where. I graduated in 2002, hopefully it's gotten better over the years.

Nac is ok. I hate driving through it honestly. Thank goodness there is a loop. They have a lot there but I would move to Lufkin before I moved to Nac. It's only 20 miles give or take.

 Hi it's me lol.
I've lived in nac since I was a year old. It's an okay town. We live on the out skirts in appleby. The bad part of town is the south side. There's a pretty good bit of minority.
I agree with enrolling in the smaller schools outside of nac, like Douglass, central heights or even garrison. I went to nac & had a gun pulled on me my freshman year so I was homeschooled after that! Your best bet would probably be to live on the outer skirts of town.
As far as barrel racing goes you're pretty much 45mins to 2 hours away from anything. Crockett is about 45 mins & there's always something there. Marshall is about 1 & 15 mins. You can PM me if you have any other questions!

Well, I am an old Nacogdoches native.  I really like living here and have raised my two kids in the community.  Any place has issues.  And Nac is not excluded from that.  I like living in the middle between Dallas and Houston, can be to either one within 3 to 4 hours and Waco too !  My daughter is in school right now, so she is not barrel racing like she was.  She will be back to this soon I hope.  There is quite a large number of races within 75 miles.  Tyler, Crockett, Marshall, Henderson, etc all put on good ones.  We also have a very nice expo, that if enough barrel racers got together, we could have a very nice barrel race.  We used to have them often here.  So if you make it here look up Indianpony and Simply Firewater.  We will try to make you feel at home !! :)

I have always loved Nacogdoches. I graduated in 1972. Was on the rodeo team. There are plenty of barrel races in the area including DeRidder LA and Kinder LA. Anywhere in Texas has its long drives you just get used to it.

Marshall is probably your best bet for barrel races
