Location: Kansas | Since it's colder than a witches.....well you get it.......outside, I'm going to go ahead and blanket my mare. She is grey and the hair on her chest gets ruffed up and rubs pretty bad with a blanket. I was thinking about getting her a shoulder guard then putting her blanket on......would one of those prevent the rubbing? Or make it worse? Or what abot a fleece blanket under it? |

Location: Kansas | This is an open front turnout, heavy weight blanket. I put it on her last year and it rubbed a pretty ugly spot on her right chest, my others it didn't rub but with her it rubs.....frustrating mare! |

Location: Windoming | What kind of lining do your blankets have? Usually a nylon or smooth lining won't rub the hair off, unless the blanket is not the right size. Too big is as bad as too small. |

That's weird. Mine do have the slick nylon lining which helps. What brand are yours? |

That's really odd. It has the basic style and look of my Weatherbeetas. |

Location: Way up North | I use the Weatherbeeta freestyles and that cut seems to really help prevent rubbing but I have to put a shoulder guard on my gelding or he will still rub. I am assuming it's because he is always running and dinking around but he is the only one I have ever had issues with rubbing. |

Location: Phoenix | I would look for a blanket with a more steep cut on the neckline. I really like our Pro Equine blankets...I think now they are called Cactus Gear because they bought out Pro Equine. The Big D magnum has a steeper shoulder opening. With your rub mark, it almost looks like your blanket is too big. |

| A shoulder guard might help, but I would suggest looking at the fit of the blanket, as I am guessing it isn't fitting your horse correct.
I have had blankets without gussets on horses all winter in the pasture that never rubbed. These blankets were a perfect fit.
Brands that I use
Mcallister, Pessoa, wetherbeta, Kodak, amigo, and glover. If I have the right fit, I don't get rub marks |

| Why put a blanket on after they have grown their winter hair??
It is a proven fact horses can fluff their hair for different temperatures and are better off without a blanket if they have a wind break and a place to keep dry if you are having a cold rain or sleet storm.
I would leave well enough alone ... lol |

He rubs even with a shoulder guard, but less. I think it is the way he's built. |

This. Check the size. A nylon shoulder guard helps, but if the blanket rubs there is usually a sizing issue. |

Location: Kansas | This blanket is an 80" I checked tonight when i washed it.....I measured her for a 78" sooooooo looks like I'm going to get a smaller blanket for her LOL. That is probably why it rubbed so bad LOL |

She didn't ask whether she could have your blessing to put a blanket on her horse.....she asked why it was possibly rubbing. I blanket my horses. Flame away. |
