This guy just behaves and you can see him lock on and wait to be turned lose to go to work. He just accelerates and moves in on that steer like he knows how this game is played. The minute the bulldogger jumps off, he coasts and just comes back for his next job. His power and speed is imcomparable. I get butterflies just seeing him.

Location: relocated to Texas | sorrel horse ranch - 2013-12-15 10:48 AM That is Oate. He started out by belonging to the Petersons....Christie, Chuck and Jordan. He was a stud and they bred some mares to him and got some of the most beautiful babies, then along the way they cut him. Christie started him on the barrels at the same time I started my stud. It was a toss up as to whether either one was going to be a barrel horse but finally one day my stud decided I was boss. Oate never really took to the barrels. I guess he knew best what he was suited for it and it was not the barrels. You have a good eye for a horse Doc. Because to me he is epitomy of what a barrel horse should like. Wish I could talk my friend into letting me have one of his colts but I don't think that will happen.
Thanks for the info on this horse. First time I saw him, I said he was the best horse there. He is. He is everything in one package - has the brains, looks, and shoots like a bullet out of the box. Those steer wrestlers will be fighting to ride him in the future. Too bad they cut him, because I am sure folks would be standing in line for one of his babies. I sure would. Who owns him now, do you know? |

I hope the owners have the business sense to make calenders with pictures of him on every month. Heck, if for no other reason, make half the profits a charatible donation to something like Wounded Warriors. After all, he is a supreme warrior! It would be perfect, and I know I would buy one....heck, I'd buy a couple! Have some action shots in there too. They ought to do that with a LOT of those fantastic horses....Sting Ray, Latte', Bo, that heading horse of the year...even some of those bucking horses.
Dang.....it's a sure winner! |

I'll have to suggest that to Savanah, cool idea. He's a great horse. No, he's not racing, just doggin'. |
