I currently feed safechoice and wondered if i added flax seed to it if that would be too much fat?

Most "fat" added to feeds are omega 6's. It is the cheaper forms of fat and one which is less utalized by the horse and can have a inflamatory responce. Flax is high in Omega 3's fat. All horses require omega 3s and it is the more expensive form of fat so very seldom added to the processed feeds. So adding flax, with it's many many benifits beyond the omega 3s would be prudent.

I guess the reason I was asking is becouse i like feeding flax..love all the benefits from feeding it!! And i can find it realtively inexpensive here. But i also like the safechoice. I have a 30 year old gelding, a weanling filly, an ottb who kind of a hard keeper, and my barrel horses are also older (17 & 20). I want to be sure i meet all their needs with out buying 5 different bags of feed. I guess i feel like the safechoice takes the guess work out of if they are getting what they need. But would like to add some flax for its benefits as well..just dont want it to be too much..they also getlike quality 2nd cutting alfalfa/ grass hay.

My thinking was combining the safechoice/flax/and whole oats.

I feed Safechoice Preform with ground whole flax and I love the way my filly looks.

I feed Omega Antioxidant with Strategy and think my horses look sublime. I add molasses, vegetable oil, Red Cell or water to help it stick to the pellets.

I feed it with Strategy (original). I feed a cup per day to my old horse. The younger ones get 1/2-3/4 cup per day. I feel like they all benefit from the added fat and it definitely helps their feet/coat/stamina.
