Expert Posts: 2276 Location: ohio-in my own little world with pretty ponies :)	So my pound pooch had a lot of mats on him and a couple days ago we slowly worked them out and had a lot of hair come off of him and I just tossed it in the trash can in my room. Well, I went to dump it out last night and it's gone!! This morning my dog has been coughing and acting like he has something in his throat...so I'm assuming he ate it! I never thought that anyone would eat it! Is this something he will eventually get out or should I take him to the vet? He is acting fine and eating and drinking and he isn't doing it constantly. ***sooo, if he ate the hair that part didn't effect him. Went to te vet this afternoon and he has kennel cough!!! She said it's very contagious and gave us some meds for him. Is there anything I can do to keep my other dog from getting it? Edited by lexyy12 2013-12-20 4:05 PM

I think he would have already but when something comes up he swallows it again instead of letting it come out.

California Cowgirl Posts: 14973 Location: California	He should pass it on his own. My little demon dog eats all her hair when I shave her if I don't put it out right away. By the end of the day I always find a huge wad of hair she has thrown up somewhere.

Expert Posts: 1898	He should pass it or hork it up somewhere inconvenient for you to step in with your bare feet... If you are worried you can try to give him some mineral oil. I wouldn't suggest forcing it on him but he might be willing to drink it on his own.

Miss Laundry Misshap Posts: 5271	Your other dog will probably get it too. Not too big of deal, just a lil more money for meds. Once they get it, it's usually gone for awhile at least. There is a vaccine, but it's probably too late for that for the other dog.

California Cowgirl Posts: 14973 Location: California	If you want you can give your other dog Cordyceps as a precaution . All my rescues come with kennel cough for some reason and I treat holistically with Cordyceps. You can get it from any health food store .
