~~I have heard all my life Of a wondrous sight It happens at midnight Christmas Eve night The animals have voices In a language you can hear I decided I would eavesdrop My time is this year So I walked to the barn I made no sound In the darkness I listened And here is what I found I peaked around the corner And in the wavering moonlight My heart skipped a beat At the amazing sight. They were all on their knees As on only horses could do They were bowing in reverence This was the thing to do I heard them all praying In words soft and sweet They were thanking the Lord For the life that they lead They praised Him for this time This special hour They praised Him for strength They praised Him for power They spoke of their purpose Difference from then and now They carried man to war They pulled his plow But now their needs changed It was a new burden to bear Their gift was their love Their purpose to share To stand so stoic To mend broken hearts To help make decisions To help make new starts It is their purpose To draw us near For big goofy hugs To dry up our tears To remind us of who We revered this time of year To remember the reason And who brought us here.
They prayed for those horses That don’t know love They hope they would be happy When they joined God above
They are connected They know this by sight Their friends with dull coats And eyes no longer bright Their mission was to show love There hearts so loving they would burst But they were too late The dark soul got there first My teardrops were falling Making streaks down my face I turned to run To my house I would race Please wait. I heard And I turned slowly I couldn’t step forward I felt way too lowly. What do you want? Why do you look so wise? What are you hiding? In those big brown eyes Our time is short And we need you to hear That our Lord is coming His time it comes near What should I do? What do you want me to say? Nothing just share your love To all every day. Next thing I knew I woke up in the hay Smelling of sawdust Wonder how I got that way It must have been a dream As I started to think Then I looked at my gelding What? Did he just wink? |
