A.I. question

Looking to breed my mare next season. She will be 11 and a maiden. Is it harder to successfully breed a maiden mare with A.I.? Or does it just depend on the mare and the studs semen? I've never had one A.I.ed always just done pasture breeding.

Maiden or not it really depends on the mare and quality of semen. And of course the experience and knowledge of the AI'er

^this. if you're using shipped semen make sure you have someone who really knows what they are doing-it can be a little tricky figuring out when to order semen-and make sure you know if the stallion has certain days that he ships and others that he doesn't

I bred my maiden mare in 2011 to Mighty Mind Bender. She was 13 at the time. Took on the first try and we have a bouncing 2 yr old filly now. She did miss the following year but we had a really dorky weather pattern and many horses and cattle up here had trouble from what I heard. She bred back last spring to Stoli My Heart on the first try.
edited to add she was A.I. all times. Never tried live cover.

Bred my first maiden AI this year and took first try and no problem. Just needed a hormone shot to help her hold. other than that NP and she is due to foal in Feb !

It really depends on the mare ... but if you have a good repro vet you'll probably be fine ;
