I got an iPod for Christmas and I am needing to add songs onto it. The only way I know how is through iTunes but SO said that nobody buys music off of iTunes anymore?! He said everyone gets music for free now lol is that true?

Where do you download music?  I know there is Limewire.. and I don’t want that as it crashed an old computer of mine..

It is illegal to download music for free. I still use iTunes. You can get in trouble if caught sharing music through Limewire. I occasionally use a converter that converts YouTube videos into mp3 files for free that can be loaded onto your iPod but depending on your internet connection it can be a little slow and some songs don't load 100%.  The site is http://www.youtube-mp3.org/. I guess I don't mind paying for songs that I like since that is how the artist earns their living. Certain songs aren't on iTunes so I like that YouTube converter if I can find them on there.

Let me warn you about lime wire.  A few years ago I had a friend tell me about this cool new way to download free music and movies.  I tried it, and it worked.  Until about a year after I downloaded the movie Jarhead. In the mail I received a nice paper informing me I was being sued.  The movie producers were sueing everybody who had illegally downloaded that movie.  I paid $2500 in extortion money and went on my jolly way.   And now it is my duty to let everybody know that it is not free, infact Jarhead was the most expensive movie I ever bought.  Dont do it!  Now...does anybody want a free copy of a very poorly done movie called Jarhead??

I buy music off iTunes and Amazon then add it to my iTunes library for loading onto my phone.  There are subscription services you can use for unlimited downloading, but you don't own the music.

Thank you guys! I haven’t had an iPod for the last 2-3 years so I didn’t know if something had changed or not. I will tell him to suck it up and buy me a giftcard

Can you load it on your iPod from the subscription services?

I buy some of my music off iTunes, I have an iPhone and iPod touch. The other music that I have on my iTunes account is from CDs that known or have borrowed, you just pop the CDs into your computer and they will sync into your iTunes, then you can sync them over to your iPod. I borrow CDs from friends and the library whenever something that I like comes out. I personally wouldn't use the free music sites because I really don't want to be/ can afford to be sued for illegal music.

Well it's not legal, but you CAN download torrents.

You need to download a program in order to download the stuff off the sites.  We use uTorrent.  Www.uTorrent.com.

Then, go to kat.ph (similar to Pirate Bay), search for what you want, and then use uTorrent to download it.  We download TV shows, music, movies..... My techy boyfriend pays to like....route our internet through somewhere else so nothing is traced back to us.  He knows more about it than I do.  But that's also an option.  I use both iTunes and the torrents.
