So as a spin off of my last thread I am curious as to how many barrel racers run Thoroughbreds. What are the pros and cons of them as barrel horses? I have one I'm looking at but my husband asked me how many people actually run Thorougbreds. Help me out here!?!?

I'm currently training one myself and I know a Thoroughbred Barrel Racing Association was just created! :) My mare isn't my first experience with TBs, as I grew up with them, but she is the first one I'm training for barrels.

Pros:
-They've seen a TON of things and heard a ton of noises if OTT
-They are smart horses
-They have an amazing work ethic
-They try hard to please especially if they are bonded/trust you
-They know how to run
-Many are over achievers

Cons: (I wouldn't say these are cons really, just things to make sure you look into)
-If they were raced, make sure to get a thorough vet check done
-Make sure they haven't been blown up at the track
-Look for one that was a sprinter
-Pay close attention to conformation as some TBs are pretty fine boned
-Most are just track broke (if bought OTT) so you should start them out at the beginning like they're a colt
