Red3 - 2014-01-06 10:41 PM Glad someone started this thread! I bought a gelding by Ivory James last January. He was raced and had about 8 starts. His SI was around 93, and is race record shows his last race that he was "fractious". With that being said, he was a little edgy once a I got him, but handled new places well. He was extremely cinchy, grouchy...treated for ulcers and that improved him 100% with the cinchyness and touchiness. I took it slow with him. He had to be lunged before being rode for a while. I took him on trail rides, which he was great at! He would get super nervous and high strung in a crowded situation at shows. Fast forward to now.... With lots of help from others and patience, he is doing much much better. He is settling down. I can take him to shows and he stands like a champ in the warm up pen with everyone. He is CRAZY talented!! Super work ethic, and will do everything 110%. He does not enjoy slow work though, he gets pretty annoyed if he has to slow lope a pattern. He also can be a handful if not rode everyday (especially if you ride outside). This is where I see his "fractious" tendencies show through. He also can act like a grouch on the outside of the stall still, but if a bluffer about it. On the opposite note, he LOVES to be messed with and rubbed on and loves to have his head tucked in your arms. Basically, he is a super talented horse, and I really think he has a lot of potential, and can't wait to get him seasoned. He learns super quick. Im still trying to keep up with him, so he is being patient while I catch up I started him on barrels when I got him, but then took him off for a few months to just try to settle him down. I have taken it slow with him, since he is so sensitive. Here is a video back in November of us at a show exhibitioning. We loped to the 1st, and I just let him cruise the rest. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZ6T2-wurXw Sorry for all the rambling

He's really nice!!!

Β oh yeah, he is!! Have to say that whatever time it took to get in his head was sure worth it because he has that same big confident way of moving. and ground covering stride that Rockinas filly has. You guys are sitting on some talent. I sure am chompin at the bit to get mine closer to home and see what he is all about. I dont think hes as beautiful or as pretty headed as either of yours from his photos but getting time off the track and adding some bulk will help him and his head look more proportionate. The man I bought him from just said his head wasnt halter pretty but if he.works good in time what would you bet it will look beautiful to me! lolol! nite. time to hit the hay. Thanks a bunch for the great posts and information.,

I have never rode one, but I have foaled some of his colts and they are SMART, SMART, SMART. They definitely leave an impression.

What do you think about the meyers stud cowboys cartel he is suppose to be 3/4 brother to paint your wagon and ivory james. I want to breed to a speed horse that has a good mind and who is atheltic and trainable.

We've had both Ivory James and PYC. The PYC is a lottle strong willed (or bull headed if you will) but I attribute that to the dam. That's what she throws.

The Ivory James might turn out to be my blessing in disguise, lol! My mom had a stupid moment at Heritage and bought her back for an amount that she needed to be slapped for. Then the filly came home and got a cut on her butt. They ended up upside down on her and decided to keep her. She's only a yearling but I'm eyeballing her for the future. She is a very kind filly. And she's very smart.

I don't know anything about my horse's dam... her name is Classic Angle and her sire is Kiptys Charger.  Has anyone ever heard of him or if he ever made a good broodmare sire for barrel horses?   I sure hope my horse's dam will be a positive influence on his disposition.  Time will tell and after reading your posts I'm getting so hopeful that he'll be nice.  :-)

Mine is actually lazy! LOL!  I swear she's got the world's slowest walk.  Drives me nuts, LOL. But she seems to know when she needs to pick her feet up a little faster and doesn't get crabby at all.  She's just got a really cool attitude.

hopin4$.....you little secret keeper!  Once again, i'm going to need more details.  Sorry I didn't get back with you last week....work got crazy and was keeping me from BHW.  LOL

I couldn't watch Rockinas video for some reason on my iPad, but will try here.  The second IJ video looked great too.  They are gorgeous horses and I love how IJ is put together.

I don't think mine knows what lazy or slow is haha!! He does get "lazy" if I let him stand around after riding, then he thinks that's a pretty good idea LOL

I LOVE LAZY!  ha ha!    As long as they enjoy being really free running when you ask them, I adore them being lazy the rest of the time because I can daydream away and enjoy life as I plod along.  What I also enjoy more than anything is a horse that I can get on easier - like 15.2 or under and they assure me this guy is 15.1 so we'll see.   Rockinas - I would have a VERY hard time getting up on your horse unless I had a bucket handy but you know, when you find one like your mare who is THAT athletic at 17 hands... it's incredible watching those kind make open runs... they just run in slow motion and mesmerize me - and then whoosh off goes the clock!   There are just a very few bloodlines that can handle the turns when they're that tall and I never had an idea the Ivory James was one of them.

Herbie... lol!!   You crack me up and always make me smile.   I know, I just went to looking and already threw money into the pot, huh!    I wrote you all the fun details so check your inbox.

Am loving reading about these PYC and IJ horses - it's always fun to learn about how others are doing if they're bred like a new one in your barn...  now if only I can get the collective talent of the riders who've been posting... or how about just a smidgeon of it!

Fortunately mine is polite about letting me get on.  When I am all bundled up as I am in that video, it's really hard to climb up there.  I'm glad no one filmed that part.

I know a gelding by Kiptys Charger and he's an awesome, awesome barrel horse. He's usually the one to beat.

ETA: I went back and checked and he's actually out of a daughter of Kiptys Charger. Not an own son. :) Don't know his sire though.
