Maybe the mare will show up on a stallion report. Might try the AQHA. |

It happens all the time, a mare sold as open and she is bred. Probably what happen was she vet checked as open and that was the reason she was put up for sale.
I have had a friend have it happend to her on both ends of the deal. |

Location: Desert Land | If she is AQHA and the new owner is an AQHA member, you can sign on to AQHA account and go to where you submit a new foal registration and fill everything in like you have a baby to register and then you enter the mare and if there was a stallion breeding report submitted for that mare, you will see something there to select.

You are correct....I did have a broodmare that I bought, was told she was open and ended up bred.......I wonder if your friend is the one wanting to buy my mare LOL. |

| How hard has she tried to get ahold of the old owner? Does she know who the vet that did the preg check was? Could try contacting them.
My gut says if the old owner is being difficult to get answers out of, especially if your friend only wants to know who the stallion is, is that the stud is not the most desirable thing with testicles out there. |

Location: SE KS | I bought a mare with this same scenario. I had the mare & foal DNA'd, this was with APHA. Then I submitted every horse, AQHA & APHA, that I could find that was either owned by the previous owner or was pastured near the previous owner. I got no help from previous owner at all!! However, I was unable to get mine registered!!
I tried everything I could think of, I don't understand why people have to be like that. I would have done the leg work & mine was a filly, shoot I'd of even paid the stud fee if I could have gotten some help!!

| Looks like you got a two for one deal. One registered mare and a grade baby. If seller does not cooperate, you are out of luck. My neighbor bought a mare that was supposed to be open and had a super looking little stud colt. Neighbor ended up giving it away. He tried to give it to me. I ran. |

I raise futurity horses and an unregistered horse has no future. Also did not want another head in the bucket. I am sure that he probably gave the horse to some mounted shooters or sorters around here. |
