CYA Ranch - 2014-01-07 7:22 AM There will also be a Connie Combs clinic near Aberdeen, South Dakota in mid to later March.  If interested I can hook you up with comtact info.  Yes this one will be indoors too.

Could you possibly send me some info?

Ditto to everything already said!  When I lived in Wyoming, I hauled to Colorado to attend 5 or 6 of her clinics.  I see where she'll be in Jackson, Tennessee this April and I can't wait!

Over the years I'd been to many clinics and back when I went to my first CC clinic, I thought, "what is she going to show me that I haven't already seen?"  When Connie lead a horse around a barrel and showed the way a horse would naturally turn without us riders "interferring" I was impressed.  The horse goes in, bends a little in the rib cage without too much nose, gets parallel on the backside, and then turns his shoulders to leave straight.  I took a well-broke but green colt to her clinic one year and basically taught him the pattern using her method (square) turn.  He ran the 3rd fastest time at the end of the clinic and made a 1D horse fairly quickly.

I also really like the obstacle course she normally does on the 2nd day - you still use the same technique but it gives the horse (and rider) something to do besides the standard barrel pattern.

Some of my most favorite clinic memories are with Wyodrumrunner at a Connie Comb's clinic in Colorado!!
It was a great weekend and Connie is super duper nice. I think the squares drill works so nice because what its really doing is just teaching your horse to move forward through the turn in the correct body frame. Its easy for the horse and rider to understand and effective.
