Mine has been short for a number of years, but I got tired of looking like a boy so am growing it back out long enough to pull back in a ponytail.  I have been getting it trimmed every 6 weeks....my hairdresser said that is  the key.  Keep it trimmed on a regular basis. And that may not be the best advice, but it seems to be helping me out a lot!!  I never got it trimmed on a regular basis when it was long...and I have fine thin hair.  But we will see....I may get some flax seed oil too!!

I recently started using this shampoo and conditioner called milkshake by z.one it smells like vanilla cake and gets my hair squeaky clean without leaving residue. And the conditioner works so well it's like a gel. It came in a box with a conditioning mousse that you put on damp hair and my hair has never felt better. It's not cheap but oh so worth it. I have long highlighted hair and have to shower daily otherwise my scalp is too oily for public lol

I bet a lot of what you see is extensions.

I keep thinking I want long hair....but I love it short.....it used to be down to my waist, chopped it and tried to grow it out, but could never get it past my bra strap after that.

I used to blow dry my hair everyday, but haven't for about 5+ years now. Only when I absolutely have to...maybe a couple times a year. And I quit using a straightening iron on it too. My hair has never been healthier! I color it regularly (no highlights though) and it's still healthy. My hair is thick and past the middle of my back. It'll grow longer, but gets heavy, so I keep it at this length.

I have started getting keratin treatments on it. They smooth out your hair so it stays naturally straight, cuts the frizz and it dries WAY faster. I've found doing this is a lot easier on my hair than the products and flat iron I used to use on it to get the same look. I've only had it done twice, but my stylist lady says the more you get them done, the longer they last. So if you're a blow dryer and a flat iron user, you might think about a keratin treatment.

I use those wen hair products. Anyone else?

I love WEN products! I have long, thick hair that is naturally curly and I started going gray at 18, so at 38 years old, my hair has had a lot of color. I love WEN products, because my hair stays tamed, not frizzy and out of control.

I haven't had a hair cut since my 2nd son was born 2 yrs ago. Mostly because I just don't have time. My hair is almost to my but. Prenatal vitamins will make your hair grow like crazy. You can take them even if you are not pregnant.

I agree with this post! I have never done anything special to my hair, and have had it long for the past five years. I don't usually blow dry my hair or curl it, and have only ever dyed it once.

I would agree its all about genetics.  I don't take vitamins, don't eat 100% healthy, don't use expensive shampoo and conditioner, I blow dry my hair and on occasion I straighten plus its colored regularly to cover up premature gray.  Its always been very long.

I am the daughter of a eccentric hair dresser so my hair has been died at least every 2 months since I was 13. Sometimes several times a month. Plus heat, daily at times. My hair was dry, frizzy, stressed, just terrible. Spent tons of $ a month on expensive deep conditioning products. I love wen. It literally saved my hair, its the only thing I use now, no more deep conditioning or masks. When I go out I only have to blowdry, no more following with a straightener as its not frizzy anymore and my hair has grown 2" and I am only on my 2nd month!

I use Pureology shampoo and conditioner, My hair is just above my belt and I high light it every 6-8 weeks I blow dry it curl it and wash it as much as I want to. I didn't use to be able to do all that until I started using that shampoo . My hair use to not grow at all it use to be just above my bra , then when I started using that shampoo about 2 years ago my hair just took off and is healthier than it has ever been. I can cut 3-5 inches off every few visits to my beautician and it grows right back . No vitamins, pills or anything just shampoo and conditioner.

I used to take my long, thick, hair for granted until one summer I went down south and spent too much time in the ocean, sun, pool, coloring, straightening, curling, and just generally not taking care of my hair...I had to get about 10" of fried  hair cut off.. I think I cried! After that I was so, so careful and was able to grow it back to where it was. Now my hair is down past the middle of my back and I use just cheap shampoo and conditioner that you can get at WalMart. I also take prenatal vitamins and love my Moroccan Oil.

I have a good friend that is a hairdresser and I have tried about every $$$ fancy shampoo & conditioner and honestly can't tell a difference between those and the moisturizing kind I get at WalMart.
Just smells better

Like others said, I think a lot is genetics and what you put in your body.

I will agree with the extensions at least with celebrities.  Most all of the celebs who have long luscious looking hair are wearing extensions.  Heck a lot of regular folks wear extensions too.
