Location: Way down yonder in the indian nation~Oklahoma | We spent winters there for ten years, training horses ... seven on Oahu at Gunstock Ranch, and then three on Maui at Piiholo Ranch. I have been to rodeos or ropings on every island except Lanai. There is so much to see that is unique to each island that it's hard to pick a favorite, BUT... Maui is by far the most laid back and has breath taking views both of the mountains and the ocean. I enjoyed the lifestyle of the folks on Maui a bunch!!! Piiholo Ranch has top of the line trail ride services, and on most weekends they have some kind of western event, either roping, barrel racing, reining or sorting... it just depends on the day~ the horses there are also top of the line, and if you decide to go there, I can get you hooked up! Piiholo also has a world class zip line that is darn sure worth the trip!
Oahu has more tourist stuff, both historical for the USA as well as for the Hawaiian Islands. Waikiki is great great fun, but we could only stand it on short visits... honestly, it was kind of like watching a people zoo! The North Shore is great... the beaches, the waves and the ranches. Gunstock Ranch has a great trail ride facility... not all that upscale, but the horses are nice and the views are spectacular. This is not a polished, well groomed trail ride, this is kinda the wooly, brushy, never know what you might get to see kind of adventure. I loved it there!!!!!
There is a USTRC roping on the Big Island next weekend, at Waimea in the indoor arena at Brian Andersons. They always have a good turnout of both local and main land ropers. They also have horses to lease for the roping if you are interested.
Kauai has the JM Stables that is run by Jimmy Miranda and his family. They also have regular roping and rodeo events in their arena that has a beautiful ocean view... only went there a few times but really enjoyed it each time!
If you'd like more specific information, send me a PM... I'd be happy to help you any way I can! |

Location: East Tennessee but who knows?! | We went to Ouahu a couple years back to visit my step daughter who is stationed there. We went to the ranch where they filmed Jurassic Park and a lot of other movies. We took the 4 wheeler tour which lasted a couple of hours but I would have loved to have taken the longer one. It was the most gorgeous place I have ever seen in my life. Also went to a beach where they were having one of the big surf competitions which was really cool-- and the shrimp truck had THE best scampi in the world. I posted a bunch of pics on here of all the sights. |

Your talking about Kualoa Ranch. ;-) And the beach would have been either Sunset or Waimea.

I could have sat on those beaches for hours just to watch the waves roll in. Absolutely gorgeous. |

Yep!! Thats it!! I loved the beaches too. If I could figure out a way to get all ponies to swim that far I'd live there! No gnats and the weather is perfect! |
