what age does a young mare go into heat? I have an 8 month old filly and lately she has been tucking her butt in like she has to pee, lifting her tail and squirting a bit. Could it be a bladder infection? Kinda stumped here

i have had 2 fillys that the first warm day during the winter went into heat. they were probably right at a year old. one of them was really gross all summer... chasing around geldings ... squirting infront of everything.

The ones I've raised were around 10 months when they came in the first time. All April babies.

Quite possible that she is coming in. Especially if you have a change in the weather getting warmer. It may only have been a day or two that was warmer but it can be enough.

Mine are all pretty early Feb/March and they go into heat right around March/april so right about a year of age
