| Hi Sorry I hope I'm in the right forum here this is my first post.
Anyways I bought this guy as a weanling and hes such a sweet heart and I am going to start him on barrels soon if he does pretty good I am thinking about leaving him as a stud..... do you think his bloodlines would make him worth being left as a stud?
I have seen some money bloodlines before but haven't had much experience with them.
Thanks for you opinions!

Pedigree is ok. Honestly, I would not breed to him on pedigree alone. He would have to be really, really proven for me to breed to him. |

Location: Washington | Personally I would not keep him a stud....in my opinion he is not stud material, especially in the conformation department.
But like I said JMO..... |

i don't know a lot of what's up close, but looks like a nice mix of run and cow
ETA Based on bloodlines, it would be really hard to successfully market him as a stallion

Location: Idahome | I agree with others that IMO he is not stud material, but I like his papers. I really like Wilywood horses, so if you don't like him send him my way. |

| I find it entertaining on here that people think every stud is going to be plastered all over magazines and websites as the next big thing.
There are plenty of people out there that run hard and succesful and use their own studs that will never breed outside their own personal program.
Whats your plans with him as a stud?
If youre keeping him for your own breeding program or a few friends then I say do as you please but if you plan on pimping him out for a proffit its probably a no go unless he finishes out amazing. |

Location: MI | My 3yo colt has Wilywood, and I love my colt. :) Yours has some noticeable names somewhat upfront in his pedigree at least, imo. For me, pedigree, performance, character/attitude all play equal weight when determining studliness. The bloodlines aren't super popular, but doesn't mean he couldn't be a nice local stud, or for your mares. He looks cute, but I can't tell enough from the picture to make a judgement on his conformation. |

| Ya I don't have a big operation and I've been barrel racing my mare and gelding for the last 6 years just at local shows and a couple rodeos lol He will be used for my mares only and maybe some friends who knows, just wanted to see what people thought about the on the money red horses and the driftwood breeding, I know lots of people had said they liked driftwood. I dont have much experience with bloodlines my mare is a grade pmu rescue and I've had her for ten years and she has won so many shows around here..... so I was just looking to see what people thought about his papers.
Thanks everyone!
You never know if he turns out to be amazing at barrels maybe we could make it to the pros! lol well that's the dream! |

Location: Texas | If you do decide to leave him a stud, be sure to test him for HERDA. Not sure now which horse in his pedigree is a confirmed carrier, but that is something you would need to disclose.
Pedigree is ok to me. It's a mix of run and cow. I'd try to prove him before breeding him though. As his owner, what you do is up to you. Ultimately if he hauls well and is successful, people will want to breed to him. If he ends up being a jarhead to deal with, it's better to snip him.
The picture isn't enough for me to say one way or the other on his conformation. I would need more pictures. More than anything, he looks well fed.
Personally, I think the best thing owners can do for horses they consider a stud prospect is to put a record on the horse before breeding them. Make the horse prove that they are worthy of passing on their genes instead of just having the ability to breed. |
