Have any of you ever been involved in a racing partnership and what information can you give me about one? I am thinking of starting with small claimers as to not spend or lose too much. I would like to know how the partnerships work, does one make decisions and others just contribute. I have lots of questions lol. Just tell me what you think about it.

Most of the partnerships we have trained for all had equal say in what went on with the horse.  Not sure I would want to be putting money in to a horse if someone elses opinion had more weight than mine.

Some of the partnerships had us send the bills to one person and they billed the others and some had us split the bills up on our end.  You may check with your trainer to find out what they prefer, most computer programs make spliting the bill up very easy so don't be afraid to ask.

It would be a good idea to have a main person to talk to the trainer or vet then relay the message to the rest of the partnership members, especially if it is a large group.  Even a 10 minute conversation about a horse takes up a lot of time if you have to repeat the information 12 times.

Any thing else specific you want to know about just let me know, thats about all I can think of for now.

Hey thanks! So first step is find a group and decide how much to play with right?

Would you say $10000 to play with the 3500 claimers is a reasonable amount?

It should be enough to get started for a few months.  One thing to consider is you probably need to get the money from everyone and put it in to the horsemans account to claim the horse with before the race.

We claimed a horse for us and two partners, our plan was to claim him with the money we already had in our account then bill the other two partners if we got the horse.  Well, we got the horse, but he bucked the rider off two jumps out of the gates.  Other two partners backed out and the horse was ours, lol, they had no faith.  Lucky for us we fixed him and he won several races for us, but we could have been stuck with him.  Lesson learned, get the money up front.

Partnerships are very very tricky.  One person nearly always feels like they're doing more than the other.  Many don't end well.
