Location: Okla | I have a double line bred both top and bottom Shining Spark mare (and his name is on her papers both top and bottom). I have just been playing around on her, doing alot of her early basic training and patterning her in barrels and poles, starting her on the mech cow ect-- as she is only 4 years old--she -has a great attitude and never ever messes around with me,,,now, does anyone know what is the best direction to take her now? She is extremely fast, quick and learns very fast, is just under 14 hands and is a dark dappled palomino...any advice on what direction I should be taking her now I would appreciate... I know from reading all I can on her breeding, I have never seen a double line breeding like hers is...good or bad? Thanks in advance.. |

| Some people swear by line breeding, some people hate it.
I'd say do what's good for the horse, the papers can't be ridden. If she turns into a reiner, go reining, if she turns into a barrel horse, go run barrels. |

| I am a bit biased towards Shiner's babies only because I was fortunate enough to work with him when Carol was still going strong in the breeding. He has the fabulous attitude your 4 yr old does, the only ones I have ever seen with any other disposition had mare's with strong personalities and it bled over.
As far as line breeding I think it completely depends on who. Shiners were always great but I worked with a line bred Highbrow Cat that I couldn't stand. I had other Cat's in the barn that season but none were anything close to him, he was a complete nut. |

Line breeding will either exaggerate the good aspects or the bad of that line. Literally, in sheep and cattle (99% of my experience in breeding) you will either LOVE the offspring or HATE them. You really won't get much of the so-so in-between animals.
With that being said, it sounds like you've got a great one! Congrats! I'd suggest taking her in the direction you love and she excels in competition. So reining, or cutting, or working cow horse, or barrels, or mounted shooting, or whatever ... She sounds like she'll have the mind to not only DO but DO WELL with whatever you ask her!

Location: Okla | Thank you all for replying back to me and giving me further advice and yes, she is such a laid back mare, nothing bothers her and she is so much fun to ride -- and to the one reply about Hickory colts, I too have a High Brow Hickory mare, which aggreviates me to no end, but she competes great every time so I continue to grit my teeth with her in and around the barn..Thank goodness the shining spark mare is nothing like her !! Location: Wyoming | I have this guy http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/zans+gotta+shiner and he is awesome. Great personality and very versatile, nice calf horse, I rope breakaway and run barrels on him. He's only 14.1 but Acts and rides like a big horse. I've also had daughters of Shiners Lena Doc that I loved, they were very athletic and wanted to please. Love Shining Spark bred horses! |

Location: Oklahoma | I have a 5 yr old shinning spark gelding & we use him for working cattle, sorting & barrels. Hes super quick and has a wonderful swing style in his turns. Love his style. |

I love line breeding - choose your bloodlines carefully and it is a great thing, choose them no so wisely and you can have a fire breathing dragon!! |

| I have a Shining Spark grandson out of a Bully Bullion mare that I absolutely LOVE!
So kind, very personable, great mind and SO athletic. He's making a heck of a barrel horse too! LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!! |
