Location: North Dakota | I am just curious what are some on the sought after thoroughbred bloodlines? What lines are crossing well today with barrel horses? My farrier races them and knows a few people wanting to basically give away some mares. I would like to get a feel for some TB pedigrees and see if they would be worth investing in. Thanks :D |

Location: USA | Personally, I like Secretariat, Three Bars, Storm Cat, and Native Dancer (My TB mare has all those) Sure there's more great TB sires and dams out there but those 4 studs I really like the most when looking at TB's |

Location: Montana | Here Zevi (most particularly Zevi bred mares) cross well...they seem to be fond of crossing them with sons of First Down Dash, and I'm sure others as well. You hear a lot about Snowbound, but don't know how well they cross on QH. Also a TB stud named Red is very popular around here for a cross on QH, so I think if you found any Red bred mares, you would be doing good as well. Hope this helped!
i.e. I've not ever owned or rode any of these crosses but have read and heard and seen good things. :) |

Location: Texas | I like to outcross to TB lines. I steer clear of Native Dancer. I've had enough that were too much drama. It is rare to find a TB pedigree free of Native Dancer as he is being inbred so much. He had soundness issues so inbreeding to him, especially when it's not sex balanced can be risky.
Nasrullah is a speedy line that has historically crossed well on QH. Bold Ruler, Zevi, Hempen, Beduino, and Master Hand are just a few of his desendants.
When looking at prospective breeding stock I look at their number of starts along with their sire and dam's. I like to see a high number as this says a lot for soundness. I also look at what distance they ran and did well at as this gives a good idea as to if they are a sprinter or distance horse. I don't want a bleeder but that can be difficult to tell if they've always been on Lasix as a preventative. I also look at DI and Dosage info to see what their bloodlines say they should be (sprinter or distance).

| My friend races a Bold Ruler/northern dancer OTTB gelding and he can stop a clock and is fairly even tempered. (Skinny and lanky, definitely abused TB. Just by looking at him, He was a rescue) |
