Location: Bastrop, Texas | Hearing about all the people just abandoning their cars in sheer panic on the highways and interstates brought back memories of when I lived in Washington, DC. We were hit with a "storm" that dumped 6" of snow on DC. Everything closed....schools, businesses, and the government. The beltway was jammed, and at first the traffic was slow, but it eventually came to a halt and turned into a parking lot as people simply left their vehicles and walked away. Basically, people panicked and said "screw this". You don't see this up north.....only south of the Mason-Dixon line. I worked in Georgetown, and could see it coming, so I just took the back roads home. I remember looking out at the parking spaces at my condo and it was empty.....almost nobody made it home with their cars. I drove a rear wheel drive sports car at the time. People simply can't handle snow and ice down there. |

Lovely, just lovely -- I'm supposed to start my new job which entails a little travel/lots of driving. I really NEED the hours...... So, guilty as I feel for the youngsters - I guess I'm gonna start praying now that this is WRONG. |

My eyes are bad Murphy is that snowfall amounts? We're awful dry here in eastern SD - especially the NE. A little warmer weather might promote some snowfall. Hint Hint Mother Nature. |

Thank you! Was starting to think I was crazy. Never bought snow tires in my life- I'm Idaho or North Dakota, just the all terrains. |

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | You know, we southerners love a good joke and are not afraid to poke fun at ourselves...but some of the hateful a-hole condescending remarks I've seen on FB and elsewhere recently (not talking about here) are getting irritating. I think they must be mad because we can cook better down here. |

I think they are just grouchy from having to deal with all that crappy weather. |

Location: EDGE OF INSANITY | i think what a lot of people don't get is that "Atlanta the city" is actually not very big and only has a population of about 500,000. What the rest of GA refers to as "Atlanta" is actually made of up around 39-40 counties and roughly 130 cities/towns (metropolitan area) and covers almost 8500 square miles and has a population of over 6 million. A majority of the people that work in atlanta do not live there and commute from the suburbs. Sooo, there is a lot of traffic during rush hour anyway, plus the only public transportation system only serves a couple of these counties. Add all that to pretty much every school, private business and state employee (since atl is the capitol there are a ton of those) were all let go at the same time, millions of cars hit the roads at the exact same time, and by then ice had already begun to form (and no pretreatment of roads had been done). I hate atlanta, hate going there, and if i say i'm "going to atlanta", chances are i'm going no where near downtown lol. Its crazy to see, pretty much every town/city runs together-you can't tell where one ends and another starts. I'm not saying that people in atlanta are wonderful drivers-they're not, they drive like a-holes, but us southerns are not really that dumb, i promise lol |

I've tried all weather radials before... But I lived off the beaten path and our road was always among the last to be plowed. I can attest the radials have got nothing on a pair of mud&snows with studs in ice or snow. I once drove 460 miles across Kansas in an ice storm. My radio antenna was almost 4 inches in diameter when I got to Colorado. All ice. From there it was snow covered roads to the Idaho state line. Back in high school, we took drivers Education in the winter and we went out no mater what the conditions were because we had to learn to drive on that stuff. Rule #1.. Stay OFF the brakes!! |
