I'm looking for a saddle for a flatter backed horse. He has some withers, but his back is pretty square. He's not a big bulky horse, but the bars need to be pretty flat without all the twist that my other saddles have. What is a saddle I can buy made for this? All my others have a curvy back, so I have no experience otherwise.

My other saddles have a gullet that is a little too wide, the front sits down a little low. Also, when I run my hand under there, the bottom of the bars of the saddle are touching harder than the tops of the bars, so like it's too wide at the top and to narrow at the bottom. So the bar angle needs to flatten out some? if that makes sense....

This describes my gelding pretty closely. I have been riding in a treeless, but am curious as to what others suggest trying.

You know, I thought about that because he's stiff through the body and I wondered if the saddle is why. I've never rode a treeless though. All I've ever heard is you love them or hate them. I'm game for anything if it doesn't make him sore!

Mine hasn't been sore from the saddle and that's all I've ridden him in for 2 years now.  I borrowed one from a friend at first and fell in love with the feel.  I will say my mom hates it though LOL.
There are things about the saddle I don't like, but my horse and my butt love it.

I had to get a custom made Martin crown c. My mare has a flat back, little wither. The saddle I got her is a 11 inch gullet extra flat bars.

This saddle was the best thing I could have done for her, now the saddle isn't rolling and I don't have to cut her in half while cinching her up.

I have an older Circle Y Marlene I am using on a mare like that, not a perfect fit but the best I have found so far.  I would like to try a Martha Wright but haven't found one to try yet.

For sure a crown c. I had all of mine fitted at Martin, and one of my mares is mutton withered with a very flat back. And the 10in gullet with flatter bars fits her perfectly. I've never been able to keep saddle from rolling on her until my crown c.

This sounds like one of my mares. If you ever want to sell that saddle, give me a holler, lol.

edited to add; It probably isn't a 15" anyways....sigh....me and my big butt!
