| My mare is the same, and she was a maiden at 18, so I was worried about her. She did great. Spent 2 weeks herding a super curious filly away from the fence and the horses in the other pasture. She was an awesome mama. |

Location: Riding Crackhead. | I bred my favorite mare twice. She's a crab. She can actually be a B word. I think that attitude made her the toughest horse I ever swung a leg over and yes I do want that passed on to her babies. Her first foal is 2 and acts pretty dang much like her mama. She was open last year and in foal for an April baby this spring. I hope this child gets her mama's attitude too. eta...this is the look she gives when another horse looks at her wrong. LOL

Location: Bandera, TX | BarZ, I have a mare that is the BOSS, she twitches an ear and the whole herd of horses move out of her way. I have a filly of hers that was injured during her futurity year. She is now pregnant and will foal in 4-5 weeks. She rammed the fence yesterday when I rode horses down the lane near her. Those colts jumped 20 feet to make way. She is much worse than her mother, she is by far one of the strongest willed horses I have ever been around. If she can't cut it as a momma she will cut it in an alpo can. I looked for a hard running horse with sensibility to breed her to. I 'm going to have my hands all over that baby when its born and try real hard to have a bond early on. I did not do that with its momma, she was born in the pasture and I didn't do anything with her till she was two, big mistake for that personality! |

Not to be Debbie downer.... but if you cannot afford to run three horses, you may not know the costs of breeding and the upkeep of foals. You may want to check into that before taking the dive.
That said, my broodies are sweet and in your pocket. I like that personality a lot better than having to watch my back all the time. Mamas do pass on their personalities and quirks to their babies, so make sure you really love her grouchiness. I really don't have room on my property for bad moods :) |

Location: Bandera, TX | Amen Murphy! Very well stated. I would not expect anyone to be around a mare like mine. She and a stud horse I rode at the track 30 something years ago have the most out there personality I've ever been around. Both were winners on their backs but terrible to be around on the ground.
And OP, I wasn't kidding about the can! If she were a human she would be in prison. |

| I sorta ran into this too. My mare is a quirky thing, and can be witchy at times (more emotional than anything), but I don't think it would stop us from breeding her eventually. Only do it if you would be ok having two of her (just prayin for a Colt with mine because I don't think the world can handle her filly. Lol) |

It did with mine up until yesterday. Even my husband thought she had been much better with the higher horomone levels. |
