How big of a pony are we talking about here? And yes, you can, I give it to my mini, but only about 1/4 of the maintanence dose. He was scratching and rubbing on everything when I got him, fixed him right up.

My vet told me if it's good for the horse it's good for the pony, in moderation. My vet told me most supplement doses are measured for a 1000 lb horse, so feed according to weight. As the previous post said 1/4 is probably sufficient.

There are a lot of issues to take into consideration when feeding the starving horse. How poor was she? How much and how often did you start feeding her when you got her? How much and how often are you feeding her now? How may times did you de-worm her in the month? UC Davis has a great article on starting a skinny horse on feed. I'll google it and see if I can find it for you!

ETA: the article. It's long but a great read!

Thanks for the info. A week after I got her we did teeth and hooves. She's a Shetland Pony around 7 yrs and weight is about 300 now I fill the hay net with o/a hay in the morning and by the time i get off work at 7 p.m. its empty. started her on calf Manna and She gets 3 lbs of food daily . She had a heavy winter coat so you couldn't tell Her actual size . I have been brushing her to shed it out. Shall start Her on AE tomorrow.
