Any thoughts on these bits? Likes or dislikes are appreciated. Also, which mouth piece do you like and what are their benefits. The short shank comfort caught my eye.

Just bought her HBG gag bit, level 1...I have not had the chance to use it, but it looks well made and comfortable for the horse' mouth..
Had been wanting to try a Myler, but they are expensive, so when I came across a good deal on the Big D website, 65.00 with free shipping, I jumped at the chance to get it..

I have several Mylers but no LM version. Most horses like the way the mouthpiece is made.

I went to her clinic last year and bought the Myler Dash for Cash on her advice, and began using a tie-down as well. While it seemed to work nice at the clinic, it became apparent after a few competitive runs that it was not working for my horse--he became very stiff and our times really suffered when we weren't hitting barrels. I went through several bits and was contemplating giving up on him as a career roping horse until I found the Martha Josey million dollar bit with the noseband. That bit has made a world of difference
(and I'm sure my riding has gotten better too
). We dropped the tie down and he has gone from 5D to 3D times
(he'll never be a 1D horse
), so to me that has been a vast improvement. I would see if you can find someone that has that bit and try it before you spend that much money.

I have several and really like them. They are really well made. But I think it's like any bit they might work or might not. I bought them for a mare with a really small mouth that just hated a simple snaffle mouth and liked one with more pieces so I have several different varieties of the kind with 4 or 5 of the small barrels that just lay nice across the tongue.
