Location: Cocoa, Florida | (I wrote this for my mom, who is a non horse person and for all the people who just don't get it!!) hope you enjoy.
It's hard to explain to someone who has never walked into a barn and took that first evening or morning breath of a horse filled atmosphere that we can exhale our stresses away as soon as our boots hit that sandy isle way.
It's hard to explain to people that the sweet aroma of alfalfa hay, sweaty horse hair and manure is such a purely therapeutic experience.
It's hard to explain the tingle that reverberates through your body traveling directly to your heart with one touch of a twelve hundred pound creature.
It's hard to explain that we can stare into those extensively large round pupils and get lost in their stare for hours.
It's hard to explain that we pay hundreds and hundreds of dollars a week for the best psychologist the world can offer without one word of advice or solution suggested to help us with our problems.
It's hard to explain that we can spend hours upon hours sweating, freezing, soaking, up to our knees in mud, and trekking through torrential downpours taking care if our beloved pets, making sure they are fed, happy and tucked away for the night.
It's hard to explain the jubilance and triumphal pleasure we obtain from hours of grooming, brushing and picking hooves, just to admire how astonishingly admirable we have made them look as we turn them out for another day of dirt.
It's hard to explain what a huge impact these animals have on our lives, how we work second jobs, how we clean extra stalls, how we pinch pennies and loose out on a meal or a new pair of shoes just so they can eat first.
It's hard to explain the loss when these animals pass, the weight on our hearts sinking to the depths of the deepest ocean floors.
It's all hard to explain if you're not a horse person yourself, and we don't expect you to. To those who do, we are a strong loving community of tough outdoor, hard working people and we are all here to help one another, brought together by these majestic animals and their spiritualistic presence.
It's hard to explain, but it's natural to us.

Location: Cocoa, Florida | Thank you everyone, it's hard living in a world that your parents just don't understand or even emotionally support!!! I tried to put it in words so non horse people can understand, I've often had many roommates, friends and clients ask me why I do what I do and sink so much money into it. This is what makes me happy in my life, I don't have a strong, big loving family so I turn to my animals to compensate for that love and support. I hope one day people and family will understand; and if not, to bad ;) |

Location: where the wind blows | That is beautiful and explains it perfectly. It took until I was in my 40's for my mom to finally realize this isn't a teenage phase I'm going to outgrow. Although I have to say I do appreciate that I had non horse parents who did support my horse addiction and now a husband who does the same. Op I'd like to print and save this if that's ok. Might even post to FB. Very well written. Thanks for sharing. |

That's very sweet thank you, please print and share!!!! I'm amazed at how many of my Facebook friends shared it as well, so I thought I'd post it on here since it's a "horsey" forum :)
