How do you keep track of your barrel racing? What I am asking is the arenas you go to. The entry , the winnings, the cost for fuel. If you liked it or not the arena and the surroundings things like that . And if you are running more than one horse. Does anyone have any helpful information they could share with me, or send me a copy of something that could help me keep track of everything to help get the new year started . |

| I have a spreadsheet I created that I log all the info into - helps me track progress, where I did well, and where I don't care to return to! Plus I like to see how much my horses have won :) I've been doing it for years! It's fun to look back and see how all my horses compare. |

Location: OK | I have a little notebook. At the top I have the date, place, what sanction and short directions to the pen. then I tell myself what the ground was like in 1-2 words, what I did, what the horse did, and what I will change if I ever go back. Anything weird or different, parking. It's all 1-2 words, abbreviated. Nobody could probably understand it but me, but it's hard to write in the truck and as long as I jot down something, the next time I go back I can look at that and know exactly what to do. That has been a really great tool for me. I've had the same book for years. So later when I've been to the same pen already, it might say, "Ft Smith again. 1-1-14. Lucky Dog. Ground great. Chargy in the alley. Good 1st and 2nd, wide 3rd. I didn't sit deep enough. bla bla bla" I try to keep it short because I don't wanna change books so I don't write down anything on the 2nd or 3rd entries that I wrote in the first like directions etc. |

| I mainly keep track of mileage, entry fees and other costs, winnings. I just finished my income tax prep and have it ready to send to the accountant. I use an appointment book. That is acceptable of income tax

Location: Kansas | I keep track of it all in my yearly planner. Each double page spread is for a week, so I write down where we went, how each horse placed (any notes like if we totally screwed up a barrel, bit changes, etc) and how much money they won. I try to get videos of every run or at least one run per jackpot so I can look back and judge ground conditions & the gate situation. Parking, warm up areas, etc., are things I tend to remember if they made a big impression on me.
ETA - I don't keep track of mileage and gasoline purchases but probably should. I've been trying to write down the mileage when we change the oil in my truck, and for tax purposes, I just look at my Discover Card spend analyzer and figure 60% of my gasoline purchases (probably on the low side of reality) are barrel racing & rodeo related.
