I jumped one that was blind in one eye. He was a lesson horse. Not sure how long he'd been blind in the eye.

This particular horse had 30 days riding and hadn't been started.  I think if they had been trained and then went blind it wouldn't be such an issue but starting off blind I'm not sure how hard it would be.  Its a full sister to my gelding that I really like and get along with and was looking at before she had the accident that blinded her.  I never rode her and don't know that she is in any way like my gelding. They look alike.  The sire really marks them but I'm just not sure.  I keep asking myself ...if you didn't buy her when she was "sound" what makes you think you should now....

Iv got 2 that are blind, One is missing the eye and the other is almost completly blind, he can see behind, just not to the side or forward.
they both happened to be started on the barrels before it happened, and they both were going to the barrel that they lost sight in.

I havent had any troubles. My one guy who lost the eye he turns his first barrel harder now that he cant see than he did before. I have to really ride him past the barrel then release and he turn the backside himself. he runs more 1d than 2d. I do have him listed for sale right now, but im having a hard time because no one wants a horse with one eye. I get lots of ppl saying they love him and would buy him if he had 2 eyes...

The other has no troules either, I do give him a lil bump and say easy to him coming in, but he is more of free runner.

If she was running and I could see what she was going to be like I would have no issues with the eye.  I guess I want so much for her to be a carbon copy of my gelding.  Plus i feel bad that I didn't buy her before this happened.

My one guy was just started on the pattern before he went blind, Im still in the process of seasoning him and its just like seasoning any horse.

I wouldnt hesitate to buy a blind horse. I actually have a coming 2yr old that got hurt and made her blind (weird thing is they are all siblings, same mare) I will be sending her to the trainers this spring.

I know with my guys, they had to make alot of adjustments getting used to not having any vision. I think it would prob be easier on the horse if they lost the vision at a younger age.

Several years ago we had a gelding that lost vision in one eye as a 2 year old. When he was 3 we started him under saddle. Treated him just like we would any other horse that we were starting, and he did just fine. Of course when we were on his blind side we made sure that he knew we were there so we didn't spook him. We sold him before he had 30 rides so I don't know how he finished out.

I'm currently riding a gelding that has very limited vision in one eye. I've owned him right at 2 years, and we just got the vision diagnosis this past August. He is 13 this year, and the vet thought he'd had limited vision for quite a while. My guy has clocked anywhere from bottom of the 1D to 4D since I've been running him. The biggest problem is getting the first barrel right, which is his blind side. I have to really pay attention to where I sit for the turn and really pilot him. When I first started running him we were pretty consistent in the 2D. Then I think I started hustling him more to the first and not helping him as much, and things really fell apart. Got the vision diagnosis and started really helping him at the first and we've been back to the 2D/3D pretty consistent. But again, if I don't rate correctly (too soon or too late) we're out of position and don't clock. This gelding was a ranch horse until we got him and put him on the pattern.

Well I am sure glad that Bill and Deb Myers didn't give up on Frenchman's Guy.

I have one with partial vision in one eye. He is a great horse! I have learned alot from him. You have to talk to him and when you ride he seems to feel your body position more than my other one's. I'm sure he'd be hard to sell because of this but he is a great horse and a top notch cattle horse as well.

One of my best horses went blind in her left eye from moonblindess. Honestly..she was a better horse because of it. We had to trust eachother more.

You know what? She never hit a barrel going to the left.

I don't think it would be that easy patterning one that is blind. My good rodeo horse is blind in one eye, but he was already trained and futuritied on way before he went blind...
