What an amazing, richly rewarding life this woman had.  She was a genius and she lifted the spirit of an entire nation during it's darkest hour.   She will always be "America's Sweetheart".

Beautiful person who, as I recall, fought breast cancer and won.

Heidi was one of my favorite Shirley Temple movies.

How could you NOT love Shirley Temple?  Those films will live on forever, I still like to watch her.  I saw an interview with her as an adult and she said that she wished she could get away from the stigma of her childhood.  People always looked at her and related her to the movies she acted in as a child.  She felt it created obstacles for her as she constantly had to prove that she was much more than a child actor.  If I remember correctly, she didn't receive compensation for the films she starred in as she felt she should either.  She was an Ambassador for the United States for several years and by all accounts a very good one.
RIP Shirley, you did make us smile.

Loved her movies.  She was so dang cute and sweet!  Didn't follow her much in her older life because I wasn't born yet and didn't care when I was a kid.  I know that she did some good things and I think she will be missed.

I can't imagine any child star ever having such a profound impact on the healing of a nation the way Shirley Temple did. FDR summed it up by saying, "As long as we have Shirley temple, we'll be OK." How true!
Her childhood stardom overshadowed her impressive list of accomplishments as an adult. The fact that she was a Hollywood superstar and remained married to the one and only love of her life for 55 years is a rarity in and of itself.

They reported on her death this morning on the Today Show. What an interesting life she led. She was such a doll when she was little.

I'm older than you are and I don't, but we were poor folks and not many games found their way into our house.

Back in the late 60's, the two dominant teams in the American Football League were the NY Jets and the Oakland Raiders.  Those two teams were fierce rivals.  My favorite QB back then was Joe Namath for the Jets.  One Sunday there was a late afternoon game between the two teams and it started at 4 pm central.  The movie "Heidi" was scheduled to begin at 7 pm central.  The football game went down to the wire and the final 2 minutes was a spectacular frenzy.  The network cut away from the game with a little over a minute to play and the Jets leading by 3 points....because they knew that "Heidi" had to start on time and they feared a backlash by the viewing audience because everyone so loved Shirley Temple.  For some reason back in those days the scheduling was quite rigid.  "Heidi" started on time and the game ended with no viewing audience, yet it was the most thrilling, hotly contested game of the year.  I remember watching the final minute on highlights the following morning on the "Today Show".

I have to wonder what people call "progress" these days.  80 years ago we had Shirley Temple.......today we have "Honey Boo Boo".
