I think I had another post about this, but I couldn't find it. But I was wondering how can I find one? I've been looking around here on BHW but don't see that many and most of them are geldings cause I'd like to find a mare. Does anyone know of any good QH's or possibly Paints that are off the track that are in NC, KY, VA, MS, AL, GA, TX, LA, TN, or SC? I know of any QH racing stables that I could visit that might possibly have a few good prospects off the track for sale? Also, I've seen some for sale around 7,500 and I know when they post TB's for sale for that high they just don't want the meat market to buy them and they just sell them for 500-1000 a piece depending on the horse. Is that the same for Qh's as well or no? And, what's the number one thing you look at when looking at QH's off the track when looking for a barrel prospect? And the number one thing that would keep you from buying them. For me I'd have to say back in knees and overall bad conformation...

The QHs we sell off the track usually have price tags of $3,500 - $7,500.

Occasionally we'll have one a little cheaper or one more expensive... But most fall in that range.

Quarters have a lot of different disciples they can go in to, so they aren't usually super cheap unless they have a problem, were super slow, or a really weak pedigree.

Bought my QH mare off the track in Louisiana for 3500, barely raced, 3 years old, with a club foot. Turns out to be the best horse I've ever purchased.

Love my two QHs off the track. Some of the best horses to be around. Very level headed and have some of the greatest personalities. I got one of mine from Louisiana and paid $7,500.

Look up Wide Open Race Horses on Facebook. They always have quality prospects for sale, $3500+ located in Al, but race in LA most of the year. I have heard nothing but good things from their customers.

I bought my mare here in MI. She wasn't the fastest (SI around 78) , but she has heart, a sweet disposition, nice conformation, and the great set of papers don't hurt either! It was a pain in the butt to keep her sound at first, but after one trip to the vet we finally figured out how she needed to be shod. I paid $2300 for her. I've owned Katie for one year now and I wouldn't trade her for anything.

Nothing against her, but she buys them from around the track and resells most of the time.  If you are on a budget you may be better off going to the track yourself and asking around.

Most of ours are priced from $2500 - $5000.
