I love to be able to SEE things work, and I'm just sharing my latest "yay" moment.

I had my vet (also a certified chiro) out over my lunch hour to do a checkup and some other things on my gelding, and while she was there I had her adjust my mare, who I've noticed loping around the pasture with a wrong back lead more than once. Mia usually likes an adjustment when it's over (she's an endorphin junkie) but is always tense and fidgety during the actual work. Today, she was really being extra good, so I got to pay a little more attention to her actual responses, rather than focusing on making her stand still.

She was very out in her pelvis, which I suspected because of the wrong back lead I've been seeing. But over her whole exam/adjustment, when Doc would get to a sore spot, she'd shake her head, and as soon as she was adjusted, she'd lick. All the way around...pevis, right side rib, several vertebra, hips, etc...shake...pop...lick. Only place she didn't follow this sequence was her shoulders, which she seemed indifferent about. We were even able to adjust her poll on both sides without a fight (that never happens--she HATES poll pressure). Afterwards, she went back in her stall and completely zoned out to enjoy her endorphins.

I really wish I'd have had the forsight to video it. I've always been a believer in chiropractics, but this mare sells it .

I used to believe that horse chiropractic care was hog wash. I have changed my mind in the last couple years. I wish I had seen the light years ago.

It is interesting to watch them. I have a mare who will try to raise her back into the pressure like he isn't getting to it fast enough. She loves the chiro !

Same here. I sold a nice JOH gelding a long while back that was cold backed. Now that I think back, he was a little funny in his hips (I was young. I didn't really notice then. Just thought that was the way he was) But I guarantee now, if I would have had some chiro work, he would have been a 100% better horse. He was definitely out now that I know what I know now.

My granddaughter came over to ride yesterday and while she was brushing and saddling she noticed he was sensitive on the top of his back and hips.  Making an appointment for him and other granddaughter's roping horse who we are sure needs an adjustment also.  Our chiro does accupuncture (sp?) also so they double love it.  In my younger days, I had a little horse that would sometimes run up the fence and it pains me to know how bad he was hurting  and we knew nothing. I am so glad that my granddaughter is seeing the signs.

My horses always drop their head, lick and chew.  You can see the muscles move in some areas while Pam was working on them.

My husband is a human chiropractor and an AVCA certified animal chiropractor. I exercised my cookie loving gelding tonight and he was acting strange after our uneventful ride? I went into panic mode, thinking colic (he was a little sweaty), tooth abscess (he refused a cookie and that's NEVER happened) & just happened to ask my husband to look at him. His neck was out pretty badly and immediately went to licking his lips, relaxing his expression and wanting a cookie as soon as the adjustment was done! I've seen what chiropractic can do on many, many occasions but still find myself impressed when it's my own ponies !

I'm a huge believer.  After seeing how it works on me, I definitely got my horse on the regimen.  My Chiro does acupressure first amd then adjusts.  The first time he worked on my horse he didn't like the pressure points and it took him awhile to release.  But then the next session, he knew what to expect and totally chilled out,  you could tell he liked it.  He drops his head and licks his lips....he loves it.  And he fires so hard after an adjustment!!!

OH, and on another horse who is super sensitive, an adjustment literally changed the shape of her face.  Her forehead use to be kind of rounded, not flat like a normal horse.  After an adjustment, her face looked like every other horses' face with it being flat between the eyes.  It really helped her and it was unreal how her face changed!!

I am a believer of chiro, but I am also a believer something has to make the horse's body to go out.

I believe if my horse is out then there is underlying pain problem, the horses compensate then they body goes out of alignment.

I believe in vet first, then chiro, for the horse.

I also believe that the horse can put your body out of alignment, and vice versa, so I believe if your horse is out then you are out too and need an adjustment, or you will put your horse back out.

I was the total opposite!  I first had a horse get visited by the Chiro when I was in the 8th grade.  One of our friends was trained and asked to take a look at my mare.. my dad agreed to it.

.... it freaked me smooth out hearing all that stuff popping!  It took me just up until about 6 months ago to finally go for myself!   But I'm certainly a believer for both now.
