| I bought a trailer a few months back without a title. I live in Oklahoma which doesn't require titles, but I would like to get one on this trailer in the event that it's stolen or relocated in a tornado. It just ties my name to the trailer and vin #.
It's a 2000 Circle C Horse Trailer. It does have a vin # and a data plate. I have had the local DMV look up the vin # but it doesn't trace to a title. I was told one must not have been filed and I have since learned that the manufacturer is out of business. I do have a Bill of Sale.
Any suggestions/advice are appreciated!!!

Location: NE Oklahoma | Oklahoma does not issue titles on trailers... I tried to transfer my horse trailer into my name and an OK title when I moved down here and the tag agency wouldn't. I would keep pictures of the VIN# and the bill of sale for your documentation. |

Location: Buffalo, TX | Where do you live? Just know that all tag offices are different, even though the laws are the same.....I use Sherry in McLoud and you can call her if you want at 405-964-7700. You can get a title with your bill of sale, but you may have to take the trailer in for them to inspect it to be sure the VIN matches what's on the bill of sale. If you have a farm tag on your truck, it's really cheap...otherwise, you get a non-expiring tag with the title that stays with the trailer until you sell it, and it's a one time fee of around $70....DO NOT let them charge you excise tax....that'll be the difference in tag agents....find one that knows the law, or call Sherry....you only pay tax on vehicles...not trailers.... |

Location: Muskogee, OK | I've recently been going through the same thing. I am from PA and that is where my old trailer was titled... Just bought a new trailer and am wanting to title it here in OK. Evidently you CAN title them in Oklahoma, you just have to title them commercially. This is basically the only way to get a trailer title in Oklahoma. So weird! Just wish they would get on the same page as everywhere else! Sure makes it a hassle when trying to resell something. |

Location: Oklahoma & Texas | Same thing happened to me...I bought a trailer in Oklahoma new...never titled..I moved to Texas and went to get plates on it and had to go get it inspected at DPS(state police) for them to run vin and confirm it wasnt stolen and then I had to have it weighed empty...had this done at grain elevator since they had a scale....then took what dps gave me and my weight ticket to the dmv and got it registered and tagged in Texas....
