| We are downsizing our broodmares and I'm contimplating selling my dtr of Easily Smashed. She's 24 this year and has been exposed and looks to be in foal to our stallion. She would only go to an excellent home that has experience with the older girls. She's had 2 nice colts, has been pasture bred every time, has bred every time and no problems foaling, good momma. She doesn't have very many teeth, so that's why I would make sure she would have the care needed. I don't really know where to price her, being her age but with her breeding. I have ridden and trained a 1D gelding out of her several years ago. She's in OK shape, could be a little better but she winters harder but does much better when the grass comes up. Any input would be appreciated. |

| She has a 2012 filly & a 2013 colt. Has been exposed and looks like she's in foal for baby this year.

| Is your mare proven? Is your stud proven? Does she have any other proven offspring besides the one?
If not, probably not a whole lot. |

Location: Texas | It's hard to sell the older mares. I know I'll never have another after I lost my 21 yo mare last year who was due to foal within a couple of weeks.
Yes, many have no problems but the risk is just higher for older mares and I can't take the heartache again.
So I'd agree, free or a few hundred dollars is about the limit.

Location: Desert Land | It's so hard with those older mares unless they were absolutely badass or produced something badass. I can't see her bringing much more than whatever the stud fee was on the horse she's in foal to. |

I paid under stud fee for a 22yo bad mama jama in January.
A 24 yo with missing teeth, no set last breeding date, and only a couple foals working for her wouldn't be worth much at all.
Old mares don't scare me, even ones with issues, but I'm not about to invest in one who isn't an outstanding producer. It costs too much to maintain them. |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | At her age, I doubt she would sell open. I just sold a black '93 daughter of Mr Dark Jet. She is a barrel producer, nothing ran on the track...for $500 and was lucky to get her sold. Her teeth are short, but she has been an easy keeper just on pasture grass. I felt she needed to get an easier retirement than what we had to offer here and took the first $500 offer. It doesn't matter how they are bred, older mares are a big risk and not worth much. I would rather spend $3000 more and get a young mare than $1000 on an oldie but goodie. |

| Yes, I was very fortunate and found her a great, forever home. It was a must that she go somewhere that doesn't mind the time & little extra effort to take care of the ole girls. We're just not set up to provide them the extra tlc they need & deserve & I know that. She will be a happy girl & I'm blessed to have owned her. :) I have 2 nice babies! |
