Location: Buffalo, Wyoming | My baby sister is having her first baby the end of April. Her baby shower is coming up in 2 weeks. Her and our mom have gone crazy buying baby stuff as this is the first grandbaby. She already has a lot of the bigger stuff and tons of clothes and I sure everything else.
What are some unique gifts I can get her? What are some things a first time mom (or aunt) would not know about or forget to buy? I am going to make a couple of diaper cakes but want to get her something she can use for along time or something that is kind of forgotten about in all the joys of having a baby.
If it helps she is having a baby girl and her name is Ridgley Jo. |

One of the things I really feel I need to get before we have our baby is a good camera. Right now I just use my phone as my camera, but there are going to be so many moments to capture that I know the ol' iPhone just isn't going to cut it.

Location: If I ever get back to Oklahoma..... | I made burp rags for one friend and onsie dresses for another. The burp rags were cloth diapers with western art sewn on. For the onsies i used a tutorial i found on pinterest.

Location: In my own world | You can go to Hallmark and find a growth chart you hang on the wall and measure their height. It's fun to see how they grow over the years. I got little silver boxes that said Baby first tooth and Baby First curl. They have the baby name engraved on them. They came from a store called Things Remembered It will be a while before she uses that but they are still neat to have. A baby spoon with name on it? I saw on FB the other day a friend of mine did a shadow box of the hospital stuff. Outfit, name tag, bracelets etc. you could do a gift certificate to have one of those done after baby arrives! |

| A very pretty back pack with the babies name monogramed on it. A back pack was so much easer to carry with all the stuff you have to carry when you have a baby. You will be able to find one on Etsy I sure. Congrats on your first niece enjoy her. |

Location: ohio-in my own little world with pretty ponies :) | I made a "diaper change to go kit" I got a basket and little bags. I filled them with anything you would need for a single diaper change and filled the basket with them. Just in case you need to run a quick errand or to keep in your car. Simple, easy and creative. |

Location: Idahome | While it is nothing that you make, I was so thankful to get a video baby monitor as a gift. I thought I would be find with the walkie talkie kind, but after using the video I am pretty sure I would have never slept hearing every little noise. Since then, I have given my sister, cousin, and a friend one for their shower. |

| I second the video monitor and backpack. Those things are AMAZING!!
And supper after the baby is here. Make her a few freezer meals, some muffins, etc. Stop by every once in a while with a pizza. Do the laundry. Mow the grass. Give momma a break for a few minutes. Oatmeal helps milk come in, so if she is planning to breastfeed take her some oatmeal cookies to the hospital.

I would probably be there everyday but I live 9 hours from her.
I am hoping I have enough "advanced" notice to get down there when she has her. I told her I hope she has a long labor. In a very jokingly sister way. |

Location: lone star state | Medicine kit. A pharmacy can help you if you need advice. Its something you don't think about until its needed. The last thing a new mom wants to have to do is go out in middle of night with sick infant for advil for a fever or oragel for teething pain.
You can also get a nice container/organizer to store the items in so they are on hand when needed. |

| Art for the wall or a quilt are both good.
I didn't use a backpack, I have 1 that is awesome and just never really bonded with it, instead I use a Lands End diaper bag that is navy blue. My husband has my son with him most days, and he is most comfortable with that. I can see with a girl wanting something more frilly though.
Babies spend a lot of time on the floor, so depending on her flooring a floor blanket or the rubber mats might be nice (we have tile throughout so we did rubber with blanket on top).
Honestly, there is so much baby stuff that is absolutely not needed it isn't funny.
There is one thing that might be nice and that is a shirt that looks ok wrinkled or doesn't wrinkle at all that she can keep in the diaper bag...babies are messy (throw up, poop, pee, spills) and I always kept a shirt in the bag for ME just in case.Β Mine was just a short sleeved polo so it didn't REALLY matter if I was in slacks or jeans, it would get me home without obvious notice. |
