So I have never done the futurity thing. I have a question. None of these horses could compete prior to Dec 1 2013. So how are some of these SOOOOOO good and consistent in the pen in such a short time. I know they can be nailing the pattern at home but it just seems like there are so many distractions in the pen it would be hard to get them this quiet and calm and consistent in just 3 months. Or does just hauling them all over with the finished horses really do that much for them?

Dec 1st is just when they started competing...they've been exhibitioned and hauled all over well before that.

So doing Exhibitions will give you that same feel as competing? I figured they were being hauled but it just seems there is an extra rush with that announcer going off and the crowd cheering you on and ........ I never really see that during exhibition runs.

This!

I live near Lance Graves and I remember when I was running if I wanted an exh. at weekly night races you better get there suuuppppeerrr early or he and Pete would have them all bought up!

They might be young, but I think you'd be suprised at how many miles they actually have put on them.

Where I'm at they usually make their announcements (like for upcoming races, series, etc) while doing exhb.  and they usually play the radio over the speaker system.  I'm sure it's not the exact same, but it's stilly pretty noisy.

Also, if this was open to 5 year olds, that gives them more time to get them used to everything.  They will start hauling them as 2 year olds, just to have them get used to tying, standing with a saddle on, etc.  Sometimes you have to wonder if the actual "running" is the easy part!

someone posted on the chat that Brittany Pozzi had hauled KissKiss BangBang all over while she competed at the rodeo for the horse to get use to the noise, crowds etc.   It sure proved good for her since I swear that horse acted like a 10 year old in the arena- plus winning Slot race and first round Futurity.  As long as they don't enter a actual race they can haul and exhibition 24/7/365.
