Location: So. Cali | I had my baby boy on Feb 25th which means 8 weeks after that is April 22nd and I wanted to attend a race on April 26th. Were you fine after 8 weeks?? Do you think I will be fine to barrel race at exactly 8.5 weeks after baby? |

Location: EDGE OF INSANITY | it took me almost 2 months before i could even get back on and walk around the pasture. I think bc they are so common, people forget that a c section is an abdominal "surgery" that can have major complications. Granted, my c section was an emergency c section and they basically ripped me open REAL dang fast (baby was not getting oxygen) so i think my experience is not typical. I was bruised from boobies to below my crotch for weeks, the incision ripped open, then got infected etc etc. Also remember that your abdominal muscles really take a hit from this so your core strength/balance wont be the same as before. I think it took about 4 months before i was back to my old self and was comfortable running. Good luck! I know i was chomping at the bit to run again |

| It was 3 months for me until I could even think about riding, and even then it was putputting around the yard. |

Location: No place better...East TN!! | I felt great after my C-section, but there's no way I could've jumped on a horse & actually raced. That would've been way too much jostling around for me even though I had minimal pain & felt great. It stays tender for quite a while. |

Location: Arizona | I rode about 6 weeks after both my C-sections. I can't stand laying/sitting around so was up and about a lot during my recovery which I think helped a lot. I can't say if I would have been ready to run by then since I haven't run consistently in about 9 years . Just listen to your body. If you feel good, then you should be fine. Just use a mounting block, and start with short rides and work on up. |

| Have you been riding? I started riding after 3 months but didnt start racing till 6 months. If you move wrong then you could tear the muscle surrounding the incision site. Lifting a saddle sent sharp burning pain up through my stomach and down my pelvis. Just be careful. Kudos to you if you want to race next month!!! |

Location: Alabama | i rodeo 6 wks after my c-section. The first wk I rode I penned cows and then went to a race that wkend.. It all depends on your body. It didn't bother me at all.. I wasn't even sore after the fist day of riding. |

| A friend of mine had a C-section scheduled so she could attend and ride at an Al Dunning clinic that she was hosting. I want to say she was 2 weeks post opt. It was against her doctors wishes but she did it any way. She said it was the most painful thing she had ever done.
I don't know anyone else who has started riding post c-section so I couldn't help there. I can tell you I had my baby naturally and entered a rodeo 6 weeks postpartum. I had to med out because I did not have the physical strength in my abdomen to run a good pattern. |

Location: Idahome | DO NOT RUSH YOUR BODY! Everyone heals differently, but you still had a major surgery. I would not plan on anything and when the time comes and you feel good then go. I entered my first one back after 3 months, but it took nearly a year before I felt my core was strong enough to not look like a monkey. |

Location: If I ever get back to Oklahoma..... | With my first son, he was born May 8 and I didn't get on a horse until after the fourth of July and that was just riding. I can't remember how long it was until I actually entered, but I think it was probably a while since I stopped riding in December 2010 and left her off until July 2011. She needed some time to get back into shape too. I was in labor for more than 24 hours and had to have a rushed c-section. It was not a pleasant experience and very painful. Had pain for quite a while aftewards.
I just had my second Feb. 6 and had my 6 week checkup thursday. I didn't even ask about riding, because I haven't been on a horse since Sept. 2013. This time it felt alot better and MUCH less pain. I'm itching to ride on the nice days we've been having, but my horse needs new shoes and I need a babysitter...
It will all take time and don't rush it. Never thought I'd say this, but enjoy your baby. They are only this little for so long. There will be plenty more jackpots, rodeos, clinics, etc. |

| I had my son 10-28 and I entered a barrel race 11/29. It was a huge mistake. I was trying to be stubborn and prove I could do it and my body was not ready. I hindered my healing process so much. Don't rush it. There will be more barrel races, enjoy your baby and let your body heal. |

Location: So. Cali | Thanks for the experiences Ladies... Looks like I will just be taking it day by day and just hope for the best. I have no intentions of over doing it and know I need to listen to my body, sounds like I will be waiting longer to go to my first barrel race back... |

Location: WET side of Washington | I rode 2 weeks after my c section, I felt great! I had to rebuild my stomach muscles but I never really felt any discomfort. I didn't start working the pattern much for at least a month but I rode a couple days a week for about 30 minutes. Everyone is different. But I also did ride my horse up until 2 days before I had my daughter. Didn't barrel race but rode around, riding is just something I can't stay away from.

Location: Oklahoma | I rode 2 weeks post op. Entered a race at 3 weeks post op, and got bucked off 5 weeks post op. I was fine, but i had a doctors release and my body had no issues. I didn't have the core strength at my first run back, but my horse is very smooth.
I also vacuumed the house the day I got home (another no-no). Don't wait to get up and walk. Think of it like a horse, you want them to walk to the swelling doesn't take over. I got up as soon as they would let me and walked down the hall, and it SUCKED! By the 2nd day I could get out of bed without feeling like I was dying. I really think that is what helped me heal so fast. |

Location: Juntura, Oregon | Like others have said...even though C-sections are common they are still major abdominal and uterine surgery! Take care of your body first because your baby needs you!!
I rode up until I was 8 months pregnant. I had a c-section that was pretty painless and a very easy and quick recovery. Then it was about 3 months after my c-section that I climbed on and backed into the box to rope. Kinda of a mistake. I felt like I was riding like a sack of tators. It was awful and I was embarrassed. It took a while for me to feel like I had stomach muscles back enough to sit in the middle of my horse.
Listen to your body! If you feel like you can run, then maybe you should enter. But don't push it! There will always be another race but baby will only have 1 healthy mommy! |

Location: United States | I am fit and active and healthy. After my c section, my doctor released me to ride lightly at 4 weeks. At 6 weeks I was in a reining clinic, and 7 weeks was running. My strength and balance took time to gain back of course, but zero problems. Everyone is different.
