my friends lesson horse has swelling in his girth area he hasn't been ride in over a week and no new girth has been used. I was wondering if he could have pigeon fever or if it's too cold?

Never to cold for pigeon fever where we live in central Texas. The only case we had was in January!

we're in Illinois but when I was reading about it, it said usually.happens summer to fall time So I wasn't sure. Thanks for your input he wasn't wanting to go much more than a walk today but he typically is lazy just a little more today he's so hairy I didn't see any puss or anything.
