I have a grand get Of his and she is 6 this yr. was on the track til she was 4 or early in her 5 yr old yr. she is super smart and athletic. She is going to make a super barrel horse once she is seasoned. She has run 2 d/3d times with HUGE mistakes against some tough horses. I think you have not seen a lot because most have gone to the track and nOT the barrel pen as youngsters

ha idk why I didnt think of that. it certainly makes sense!! I know Charmayne James' Grasshopper is 1/2 bro to him & that horse is impressive. I also saw a 6yo paternal gson of his run a 16.3 at the BFA in OK city just loping, which is also impressive. I was just kinda doubting my filly since she doesn't have those incredible bloodlines you see winning all the time...

I have a grandson on sire side, very laid back. He is 6 years old. He is running in our local 4D's he has been in 3D/4D's. I love him, he was never on the race track. He is the coolest horse. If i could have another one of him I would have a couple of more.

My 6 yo grandaughter of him ran a second off of Tammy Fisher's Traffic Guy loping...
My horses half sister qualified for HSR in poles and barrels. AQHA 14-18 HLSR champion. Many many other things. Shes 10
Their sire is Jess Special

Crazy trainable- i trained mine myself. shes got some seriously powerful turns and has a humongous stride.

My avatar is a son of Pretty Boy Perry/MJP out of a Runaway Winner/ByYawl mare.. SI 84 , 9 starts..
He is a gentle soul, in a racehorse package..
I have entered only 10 barrel races on him, after a year and a half of careful training and miles out of the arena,..
He is only 7 years old.. sweet as can be.
He will be a good one!
He is so powerful when he runs a barrel pattern...I am re-learning how to ride just to stay with him!
I love my Brother Dave!!

Okay so here is my take for what it is worth. IDK that you will see many own get of MJP in the barrel pen, just because of how much they usually cost, same with some of his grand get as well. I do think that you will see grand get make it, when crossed right. There have been a few who have done well so far and others who will be up and coming. I have a mare by Streakin La Jolla (MJP's sire) and she is one of my most favorite horses. I also have a daughter of Feature Mr Jess. I ran her as a futurity colt last year at 4 and really wished that I would have waited until she was 5. She was working well, but a fall set us back, and then it was like she really slowed down on her maturity level. I think as I learn to ride her big stride and we figure out how to rate (cause once we get rolling sometimes we forget how to turn, lol) and she matures more she is going to be a really nice horse. I've enjoyed both of my mares a lot. I have found them to be real "people" horses and easy to train, almost too easy to train. Both of mine are 16 hand plus mares but have a lot of ability as well. I am seriously thinking about crossing my Judge Cash mare on a son of MJP who is out of a daughter of First Down Dash next year.... Mr Jess will never be a deal breaker on a pedigree for me.
