Location: SC Kansas | I got this mare in on February 26th, 2014. She's a really well broke and nice mare and can run a pretty nice pattern, so I brought her home. Seeing her everyday sometimes makes me wonder if she's actually gaining or if it's just my eyes, some days I see a significant difference and some days i'm just not so sure! So do you guys see a difference? I know it takes a long time to get it all back, I just wanna see if others see as much of a gain as I do.
This was a week after I got her, 3-5-14

| With 30 days of a regular feed program and care of the body hair she is looking great!!
The first signs of improvement show up in the lower 2/3's of the body.... place your hand below the point of her hip and draw you an imaginary line from the bottom of your hand from the buttocks to her neck .... everything below this line will be the first to show improvement as weight gain/body condition...... ... Brushing acts as a massage and stimulant and increases the oil ducts to shine up her hair instead of it looking like an old moth eaten blanket.
The 1/3 above the line is the tuffest to fill in and smooth out .... it may take a year of normal care to round the top line from tail head to withers .... so just keep up what you are doing and don't get crazy with supplements and over feeding and create other problems.

| There is definitely a difference. Just remember that it isn't going to happen overnight. It took my boys months to really look good. And it really is hard to see it when your with them everyday. I looked at some before and after pictures at 7 months and it's crazy the difference! The first step is getting them on good quality feed and making sure to get rid of any worms and such. The rest will come! Good luck! |

| YUP!! Look at the lower 1/3 of her body. Her flank, stifle, front fore arm area ... she's coming back. It will be a slow road but you're going the correct direction. Keep up the good work!! |

Just remimber like others have said, they gain and fill up from the bottom up. The top weight is the last to go on. We rescued a mare last feb. in about the same condition. It really took 3 months to really see a big difference and by the end of summer she was looking wonderfull. Now, 1 year later she looks awsome and you would never know she was a 1 on the body scale. We fed/feed free choice alfalfa, all she could eat. She was grained 3x a day, COB w/ renew gold added, and spent the summer days in the irrigated pasture w/ hay added to the feeder also and in her stall and pen at night. It's a long road back but you are def. on the right track! Make sure you keep very diligent on the worming and rotating the wormers so she's not being drug down by them also and use a good probiotic to get her gut function up and running so she can use all her feed properly.The neglect is multi faceted and if they arent being fed, they arent being wormed and teeth done either. Good job! |

What is your program?
I have her on 10 lbs of Thrive per day (http://thrivefeed.com/ if you're unsure what it is) and red cell. I also soak alfalfa pellets for her at night and she gets free choice on a brome round bale. She's already had her teeth done and she's been wormed as well. I pulled a blood panel and CBC on her, it came back that she had a low iron level and her Creatine(sp?) levels were high, so my vet had me start her on the red cell and then were gonna pull again in a month and see if its back to normal.

The thrive website say you can feed it free choice to rescues. I might do that if I were you. |

Location: SC Kansas | I thought about doing that, however after speaking with Dale the maker and owner of Thrive we came up with 10 lbs a day would be adequate enough. |
