We already have purchased a breeding to the stallion Jess Vegas, (http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/jess+vegas) with intentions of breeding our mare Fame N Firewater (http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/fame+n+firewater) BUT that mare isn't due to foal until early June. For that reason I am second guessing my decision to breed her. She does however foal approximately 10 days early. We do have a mare that is open, that I am wondering if we should just breed her to this stallion instead. Our intentions was to breed this mare to our own stud. (http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/briscos+angel)

Soooo. . . based on the bloodlines of these two mares, is it worth breeding the mare that is foaling late, or the mare that is already open? I would prefer to cross the bred mares bloodlines on this stallion, but I also don't know if its worth messing around trying to AI a mare in June. She usually settles the first time, but this would be the year she gives us heck I am sure ;)

That baby next year would be really late if  you bred to the pregnant mare.  Would you plan to furturity the colt or do anything that matters in  regards to the later foaling date?

I'm in Minnesota so the late foaling date doesn't bother me TOO much, but obviously I don't want to be foaling extremely late neither. We usually aim to have our mares foal in May. If the foal was going to the track I would prefer to foal earlier, but since we have a 6 month winter disadvantage for futurities anyway, it doesn't really matter that much to me in that aspect.

Not to change the subject at all, but does anyone breed to such and such a horse anymore looking to improve on something on the mare physically anymore? Like I have a really nice mare, however I would love to see her body tie into her legs lower, and maybe a tad bit lower hock set if I was going to really pick at her though she does amazing things even with the higher than I prefer hock set. Or has it really just become "who's your daddy"?
Can you tell I'm not knowledgeable about breeding at all, LOL!!!???

Plenty do, but not all unfortunately. This mare (Fame N Firewater) is pretty hard to fault though!

As long as I posted a picture of the bred mare, I may as well post a post a picture of the open mare. Briscos Angel

I'd probably wait and breed to the firewater mare.  Foal would be more valuable in my opinion.

See, this is what I'm talking about on my mare, I'd like her to tie in low like this mare...
She to me ties in a little higher like the other mare.

It depends on the contract. LFG?   Do you have to pay the booking fee again if you wait for the mare that is foaling?  How late they are willing to offer semen on him. Some cut it off on July 1 and there's not much time to breed if she foals late.

All that said, if you're not worried about the foal being late and they don't penalize you for going into the second year of the contract, I would breed the one you intended to breed.
