Just found out my barrel horse has a pulled or partial tear in her digital flexor tendon in the rear right leg. Had the vet come out and she is now on stall rest for a week and light turnout for 2 months before riding or any exercises. Any suggestions for faster recovery or anything to help would be greatly appreciated.

Personally I would not be worried about 'faster' recovery. You should be more concerned with 'correct' and 'full' recovery. Just make sure you do what your vet recommended.

I shouldn't of said faster. I want a correct and full recovery no matter how long it takes.

Stem cells will give you a faster recovery and better odds of getting back to preinjury level

Good luck. We've been off our's for 7 months now, waiting on it to heal. We did the stem cell therapy and complete stall rest. We finally got the go ahead to start exercising him under saddle for 10 minutes a day 3 or 4 times a week.

My gelding had the same injury. We did a lot of hand walking, then after two months riding at a walk for a month, trot for a month, then a lope. It's been a year and he's just now ready to enter.

I wish I would have done stem cell!

The wrap laser therapy by spectratherapy makes treatment so much easier. Check out the banner ad here on BHW.

We have had succes with IRAP and shockwave therapy, along with the cold salt water spa.

Thanks for all your help. I called the vet the other day and got told I'm allowed to start working her. I have to start slowly and work her up which I don't mind. We should be good by summer as long as she doesn't go lame when working her.

You didn't get a u/s to confirm the tendon is healed before he said to put her back to work?  I would not trust that, if that tendon is not healed you will just tear it again.

She told me it was pulled with maybe a micro tear when I talked to her the other day. My horse is not lame just has a bulged and the vet says that is from scar tissue.

it's not so fun when your horse gets an injury but it actually gives the horse and person time to connect with each other and you can get to know your horse a lot better not saying its good to have an injury on a horse but gives you a more true relationship.

Thanks for everyones help. She is all better. She still has the buldge on her leg but the vet said it would probably not go away. I have been working her fro a month now and she is doing good.
