do yourself a favor and check out an Ivory James. I used to love several bloodlines and if they were a tad fiery it didn't bother me a bit...but now I want something sweet, easy to love and very laid back, not spooky and calm minded and I'm thinking this gelding is the sweetest and most calm I've ever ridden. Sometimes age changes what defines fun, right? lol!! I just wanted to throw that bloodline out there in case any older ladies were horse shopping but still wanted to start one on barrels themselves. :-)

I'm not as familiar with Frenchmans Fabulous. I did have a wonderful firewater flit but he would spook quite a bit when i was first starting him...but very sweet and friendly.

Very good information.  I have liked them for a while but not been lucky enough to find one for sale.

I wake up just excited to get to ride him because he doesn't fight me anywhere! I finally took him out in the 5 acre house pasture and he looked alot at the different implements and never did the spook and startle which was pretty cool. He would slow his walk or trot and look...the funniest thing was when he was looked at the prickly pear patches that were clumped up on the fenceline where we had a backhoe man dig them up...but again, no spooky behavior. That was his first time in my pasture. I'm so excited to have one that doesn't look for a place or reason to act spooky in the pasture when coming off the track. lol. We have work to do with his ribcage in a smaller circle. but he's trying and learning quick! Oh lawdy, is my core out of shape. lol.

I am so glad this purchase all worked out for you!  Gotta love a nice quiet horse at our age!

Thanks! It was a "journey" Total, as you well know. ha! and for those curious...just know the character of the race trainer you buy one from off the track BEFORE you buy. It can make the experience good or it can make one a total nightmare, especially if you buy from out of state. lol
