Can you give me the run down of horse stuff around here? Like when you ride, if there's any calf roping practices? Open ride nights? Barrel clubs? Do you have your own arena or do you have to haul somewhere to ride? What area do you live in and is it a good spot or do you wish you lived in a different area? I've read the "scouting out AZ" thread but looking for more info on the "what to do" in the area. Thanks!

Dunns arena, Buckeye equestrian center, Horse lovers Park, Larkyn memorial arena. Desert hills/cave creek is a big horse area and many properties have their own arena or room for one. Waddell and Buckeye are other areas that are similar. Housing/land will be more expensive in the waddell and desert hills area though because it is so city like and most have beautiful homes on them.

Dunns has barrels on Wed.Fri nights and they typically rope several times a week and have the arena open during the week usually.
Horse lovers park does have roping/cow stuff go on but it's few and far between.
There is also a place called RR arena or something like that towards wickenburg and they are doing a lot of roping events lately. and Quite a few barrel races.
If you're in the phoenix, Waddell, desert hills, cave creek, peoria, glendale, surprise or buckeye area all of these arenas are within a 30 min - 1 hr 30 min drive depending on where you are. and all of them are along major highways so pretty easy access.

Thanks for the helpful responses!  I tried to go scout out Cave Creek but I went the long way around and then I missed it entirely I think LOL.

Google www/classifiedhorse.com and it is a great resource to AZ barrel races and there is also a section on roping, etc.

Cave creek has Hogs and Horses now running barrels a couple times a week. I think the Road runner in free river might too?

Love it out there...might be our next relocation in 18-24mos

If you are looking for calf roping, I think your best bet is to be closer to Casa Grande/Marana/Tucson area.  The majority of roping up in the Phoenix area is Team Ropings.  However, I could be wrong.  As far as barrel races, we do have a lot to go to in the winter months.

Some people have their own places to ride at home or board at the places mentioned.
