I've had my Crown C for about a month and a half now and I'm already seeing my boys back muscle up.

I worked with Martin this weekend at BRF to fit him. My 7" gullet fits him perfect right now in my 7/8" 5star and he said I could get a little more mileage out of it by using my 1/2" 5 star, but I should keep my eyes open for an 8" gullet.

So my eyes are open, anyone know of a 14"x8" gullet for sale? Would prefer it not to be too fancy so the price is reasonable, but I'm not a huge all rough out fan so a half breed is preferred. Not in a huge hurry but I have a feeling I will be needing to buy before mid summer...

If he fills out the 7" quickly should I go 8.5"? He's got some pretty prominent withers right now so I think we have a ways to go. We put an 8.5" on him at BRF and with shims it fit.

I'll have to look into that, I wonder how long it takes and if they'd send me something to ride in the meantime...that's my concern being the beginning of the season

I can't wait that long with nothing to ride in :-/

I found one that just popped up on here that is 8.5" instead of 8". I may end up waiting a little while and just seeing what comes up for sale since the 7" still fits him

I would maybe do the 8.5 and pad and shim until he fits into it.

$700 to get one re-treed??  Can someone explain this to me?  Can you not sell them your original tree and help with those costs?  Or is the $700 just for the labor?  I was considering buying a younger horse that I know would be changing gullets over time and I just thought that I'd re-tree everytime if I bought him a Crown C.  I can't afford $700 everytime and wait eight weeks inbetween.  I think I really understand why there are soo many of them for sale now.

I haven't called to confirm that number, but I also can't be without a saddle that long. I'd rather sell this one and buy a used gullet in the size I need and continue that cycle until he's filled out, then order one I want to keep for a while if I feel the need...

I could see having it retreed if it was a special custom ordered saddle and the new tree would fit for a while, but I certainly can't justify it multiple times as they grow.

Personally, I don't think this is why so many are for sale.
I would think you would still need to change saddles as the horse grows, regardless of model/brand.

I think there are so many for sale because:
1- people aren't sure what gullet to order, and they have a LOT of choices (6.5" to 11", and the sizes also don't really equate to other brands, most of which are designed to sit on the shoulder, whereas the Crown C is not)
2- martin is a huge company and makes a lot of saddles anyway, so there are just more out there, and this is probably their most popular model for barrel racers
3- they sit differently than other brands of saddles, and folks are having a hard time getting used to where to put it, don't like how it feels, don't want to shim, etc etc

I like my Crown C a lot, and while it is not a perfect fit, it fits much bettern than anything else I have ridden in (and that's quite a few brands). I am really, really happy with the saddle.

If it were me, I would sell one and buy a used one instead of retreeing for a young horse. My horse is aged, and while I can see his atrophy filling in, he's probably not going to go up in gullet size. I may have to adjust my pad or shimming, but if they aren't growing I don't see an adult horse filling out THAT much. For a young horse, I might just go as wide as I can and pad the difference as much as possible, as long as it isn't soring one. JMHO

PS, I would assume the 700 is labor, since they basically have to disassemble the whole saddle, right? I'd be worried it wouldn't sit the same after that, but I'm sure they know what they are doing.

Boy the price sure did go up on retreeing a saddle, the last I heard it was 500.00 and that was not that long ago. I wonder do you get your tree back out of your saddle after they replace it with the new?
I would rather just sell the saddle that dont fit and get a different one.

Thank you, thank you!  I've decided against a young horse and hoping something older (hopefully will agree with something 7-11 yrs old) will be a little more consistent in fit.  I don't think I'd be against shimming just as long as it wasn't the perm. fix.

What exactly is the Facebook page? I found the one for Martin Crown C, but all of those saddles are new.  I am probably going to be needing another one, but since Inhave a beauty, I just need a plainer one.
