I have a horse that came up sore on the front.  We thought abcess or hot nail because the area that tested sore was close to a nail.  Pulled the nail out and done soaks and wraps.  Seemed better but after one short ride, still not right.  Vet came out and examined and even done an x-ray.  He said that we have a very bad bruise.  Soaked for four more days.  I still have a sore horse.  Just curious as to how many of you have experienced this and is it normal to take this long to get one sound.  The total process now has been almost two weeks.  We have had one other similiar but a pad took care of it all.  Pad hasnt helped this one.

Sounds like an abscess is brewing, or a possible dried blood pocket from the bruise.......I have had both things happpen.......the blood pocket thing only made my horse slightly lame, and yet my vet missed it. Once we pulled her shoes, she was more lame, took her to a 2nd vet and she did just a little digging and got the dried blood pocket out......horse went immediately sound, and had been just slightly sore on it for around 4 weeks prior

He did some digging in the area hoping to find something, but no such luck. I am hoping that we will get some results soon. I am such a worry wart!!

Do you have soft rides or a protective boot? You need to help protect it the best you can if it is a bone bruise.

My horse had a very bad stone bruise and it took 6 months before he was sound again. Make sure and let it heal completely, otherwise it will just keep happening.

I have a medicine boot. I think it is a sole bruise. It is near the edge of the hoof near one of the nails (Where the nail was. It has been pulled.) He is coming back tomorrow to take another look to make sure we haven't missed anything.
