Location: Nowhere Special | I'm not sure they are related or if its something I really even need to fret about right now.. Vet will be out next week and I'll have him pull blood and get a urine sample but till then..
New geldings sheeth is VERY swollen.. He has been stalled for past 2 weeks with minimal turnout, his legs swell up but go down immedietly with some hand walking. Sheeth does not go down. (I'm hoping when he gets on turn out it will help) He had a bean, small but hard as a rock I pulled out yesterday, Attempted to clean his sheeth today, didn't go so well and he really did not feel as dirty as I thought but getting a good cleaning in was not going to happen without some sedation. He has been on antibiotics for 10 days.
He urinates frequently.. He peed in his stall when I first got to the barn today, peed again in the round pen, and then peed again when I was putting him up. (About 4 hours total I was at the barn) Normal amount, no smell, just normal urine, and he does not appear to be straining or in any pain. Hes not consuming anymore water then normal..
Keep in mind this is a very thin, malnurished horse that is on the up swing and getting a lot of good feed, hay, and mineral.. I've never had one have an increase in urine from this but i guess anythings possibile.. Anyone have any ideas?

Location: 31 lengths farms | doesn't smell like urine? My mare was diagnosed with kidney and bladder stones, frequent urination, and it didn't smell like urine either which really is not a good thing. In her case it meant her kidney's were not functioning properly and concentrating the waste. At one point it was almost clear. Hoping this is not the case with your new boy but I'd have blood pulled and tests run. Put her on an herb regimen and had the bladder stone removed and she is doing much better :-)

Location: Nowhere Special | No sorry I meant no unsual smell or color.. It smells and looks like pee but not super concentrated or highly pungent.. Just normal pee |

| Not sure if my case is related but about a month ago my two horses got really dirty and really smelly over night. Slight swelling but they were both tender! Didn't want to be cleaned. Tons of smegma all of a sudden. Rinsed with just cold water and it was gone within a day. But now it's back! |

Location: Abbotsford B.C. Canada | Check over the feeds you are using and see if there is a lot of extra salt in the feed. You say water consumption looks normal but double check that. Maybe the hay has been fertilised with cattle manure and has a lot of potassium which is an electrolyte the kidneys need to remove and that takes water to help get rid of it.
If the hay is quite high in protein they drink more, pee more but I would suspect the urine to be more yellow and ammonia to increase in the stall.
The signs of Cushing's include drinking more and peeing more and the swollen sheath can occur in Cushing's so ask your vets opinion about that if nothing else explains this. That may be why there is no obvious reason for the extra urination, the Cushing's is an endocrine problem. Early Cushing's is really hard to detect. Blood cortisone levels may be fine and the horse may appear calm so it takes a little detective work to determine what is going on .
Kind of a curve ball. Just a different opinion.
