Whole oats, beet pulp, rice bran and flax 4-8 oz depending on the horse. I have a mare that's 17, with a foal on her side, three babies on the sides of mares all eating this mix. Butterball fat we have no grass due to drought. They get all they can eat of coastal and a pat of alfalfa daily.
I thought my two barrel horses would jump out of their skin, no problems. Both are looking good and behaving.
I grew up feeding whole grains-looks like I'm going to go back to it. I've been on and off so many processed feeds the last 12-15 years the horses as a whole look better than ever.

Beet pulp, alfalfa/tim cubes, california trace, salt, 3/4 cup of milled flax and a little veg oil. Pretty much free choice grass hay and his pasture is growing now so fresh soon:) The alfalfa/tim cubes are just cuz I can't get alfalfa hay right now.

I've had two people comment on how shinny he is :) He is still losing winter coat too and I can't wait for him to shed out and see him in the summer sun:)

I recently added some local fat + fiber feed as well. I got a free bag :)

4 years ago I took everyone off of grain because of ulcers and colic.   They get soaked molasses free beet pulp for calories, fiber and mositure, I adjust the amount according to calorie needs- barely a cup in the summer to 1/2 scoop in the winter, 1 1/2 cup renew gold plus vitamin and mineral supplement. Alfalfa during the winter and when stalled.  They have 80 acres to graze during the day, small 10 acre pasture at night, stalled only for weather, etc.  They are fat, shiny and happy :).

I used to feed triple crown but nobody in my area carries it )=

I feed a quality grass alfalfa hay, give pasture turnout time, and nutrena empower boost (rice bran).

I just have a semi retired middle aged barrel horse (3-4 shows a year), a navicular gelding, and a colt I'm starting. I'm not sure what I would feed if I was going hard every weekend like I used to back in the day of sound horses and extra cash.

ALL- Alfalfa/Timothy cubes & mineral block access....pasture once the grass starts growing.

Barrel mare and prospect, get a handful of sweet feed ration just to get their herbs & probiotic in.
