My farrier, took a public job about 3 weeks ago. I haven't been able to even get in touch with him. my daughters barrel horse came up ouchy on one foot. It had a rock so jammed between the shoe, and frog that I had to take vice grips, and bust it to get it out. It was better in two days, and I was elated. Then a few days later, it was ouchy again. stall rest, and checked for hot nail, bruise, everything. nothing seemed wrong. He got better. Turned him out/started riding him again, finally saturday sore again. I put a pad on myself, and just followed the same holes with the shoe. He got worse. I pulled the shoe, and pad yesterday evening. He is this soled anyway, so you need to be very careful. I finally located his most tender spot, but it wasnt even near where the rock was. As soon as I dug in it a littel, it busted. I washed it good, put iodine on it, put a generous amount of allum on it, and wrapped it in a diaper, and put him back on stall rest. He seemed 85%-90% better this morning, and wanted out of the stall bad.

WHAT more can I do?, and have I done enough?

I have had good luck with sugar and iodine mixed with arnica.  I have a bottle of the arnica tincture I got from BigD but I think you can get it at a health food store.

Once they bust, the hard part is done, just try to keep the foot clean for a couple of days.

I ain't much of a farrier, will he need a pad? Im planning stall rest, and keeping the foot padded (with a shoe on) till atleast Friday. Im also going to clean it daily, and rewrap. It was a stroke of luck, when i was able to pad him the first time. I don't think I can do it again.

I would wrap it and turn him out in a dry area if you have one. Moving will help it drain. Continue to soak and treat it until he's 100%

I would be afraid to pad it. You don't want to accidentally hold germs in there.

Assuming nothing else goes wrong, do you guys think he could be ran by May 10th?

I ride mine as soon as they are sound again (as long as there is nothing structurally wrong with the foot- ie the hole is not gigantic or something), and I can still keep the hole clean where it busted from.

Same here.  I've never seen one continue to gimp once the abscess drains unless there is something else going on.  If the leg swelled up from it, I will sweat it down and go on.

I agree with turning them out too. helps it drain. and usually I am back riding with in a couple days of the abcess busting open.

He's 100% today. I put a diaper on his foot, with a gorilla tape pad, and plenty of vet tape, and put him in round pen. The gorilla tape pad stayed on for 24 hours, and looked pretty much like it did when I put it on. I was impressed with the product.

My vet swears by the Gorilla tape for bandaging feet! That stuff is TOUGH!
