Location: Oklahoma | Be very carefull leaving more toe on the back feet. You are creating leverage that will in the end have a bad affect on hocks, stifles, tendons and ligiments. It's all about leverage!! How far the tendons need to strech before the foot gets out of the ground (more toe) puts wear and tear on everything above the foot. JMHO |

Put bell boots on him. That's what I do with my mare since she would pull a shoe often. She hasn't pulled another shoe since.
I second this I have rubber bells on my guy when turned out, because hes goofy and plays hard. I was replacing one shoe a week. |

| For all you keeping bell boots on 24/7 do you worry about long term effects of bell boots, the pulling on the pastern, the constant heat.
To me this is still masking the problem the horse is not tracking correctly. |

You don't have to leave a lot of toe to slow the break-over time enough to get the front feet out of their way.
As a matter of fact, I would set the back shoes forward a tiny bit before I would short-shoe the front ones....

I used large bell boots so there was some room at the top for her. I also used rubber ones that had the velcro so they would come off and I took them off whenever I rode or had her out of the pen. She never seemed to have a problem and I never noticed her hair looking any different. She never sweated under them, either so I wasn't worried about the heat.
I definitely agree that it could be a shoeing problem, but was just saying that mine wasn't and the bell boots worked for me. |

| Just set the hind shoe back a little and roll the hind toe. I have been a blacksmith for oyer 30 years and this is how I shoe my barrel horses and very rarely do I pull a shoe.

The back feet are already getting to the front too soon.. This sounds like it will help get them sooner still.. |

| if you keep the toes on all four feet the same length ( the shorter the better) and roll the hind toes they wont hit the front feet. Not sure what angle your at but I would suggest 50-52 in front and 50 on the hind. Be sure the feet are balanced. Like I said before I shoe like this all the time and rarely pull a shoe. |

I don't have actual bells on that you would run in, they'r way lighter. For me its it's temporary, he is getting corrective shoeing done and will take 90 days to get his feet right. |

Got that injected this spring and he hasn't pulled a shoe yet. (knock on wood)
If they are pulling lots of shoes, it could also mean they have a very subtle lameness problem somewhere that is causing them to scramble with their feet and mis-step.
Food for thought.
With it being the right stifle, did he always pull the same shoe? If so, left or right?
Nope. Usually he would catch one of the front shoes (more often the left front) and bend the back or pull the show completely. He did one time completely pull off the left hind. He did it 7 or 8 times over the course of a couple months. |

Location: MN | Thank you all so much for the input. The ONLY thing about switching farriers is he comes from 3 hrs away and there is nobody else in the area that I have heard of but then again i am new to the town. To me, his heels are too long...my farrier also said that he had some soreness in his feet especially in his heel. Wouldnt that make you think that its something hes doing? Im just trying to come up with some ideas. Also, he catches the bulb of his heel a lot. Im going to go buy some rubber bell boots just to try to save my $125 shoes plus a $20 re-shoe if he has to come put it back on. Thank you again for the input.
