I have a really nice two year old that was just started for me. She has maybe had 30 days ride time, she is super sweet and trying hard to learn everything. however, when she trots she wants to go faster faster then wants to lope. or when she is loping she wants to do the same and if I let her run . she dosent seam like she runs out of gas either. if I say whoh and sit she will stop but slow down hum no. I do not want to be in her mouth at all actually. I have tried quit a few drills but it seams like she just wants to go go go. any suggestions how to help her relax or will it just take time?

I do a couple drills with my 2 year olds. The first I call my drunken exercise. You can do it at what ever gait you want, start off going somewhere, as soon as they get faster than you want pick them up, turn them tightly at least 180 degrees and go a different direction. You have to give them their head and only pick them up when you are going to turn and go a different direction. Don't pick a particular destination or direction, just go until they are too fast pick up and change direction. I also do a lot of jogging in smallish circles, give them their head, as soon as it gets too fast pick them up, then throw the reins away again. The biggest thing I have to remember if often times when I find my colts getting faster and faster I find that I am getting more and more tense or sitting forward, basically telling them to go faster, as soon as I relax and sit back they often come down easily. And if you are constantly pulling ont hier face trying to prevent them from going faster it is only going to make matters worse, you ohave to throw them away and let them make the mistake and then correct it.
