My stallion's sheath is swollen. It sometimes looks like a baseball size just on one side. It will go down then swell back up. My vet at first said he might have been stung by a bee or wasp, but then ruled that out after it did it several times. Since then it has gotten like that again. He has been cleaned and de-beaned. It is not tender to touch.
We give him dex and clean him out but it just keeps swelling back up. Anyone else have this problem?

have you noticed any gnats out yet? Ours did that several times last year, for several days in a row, before we realized what it was from. For us it was from flies and gnats irritating it. We covered it in Vaseline, inside and out, and didn't have a problem with it again. I hope you figure out what it is.

First of all, swelling settles in the lowest spot because of gravity. It could be something up higher and the swelling just settles in the low spot.

That being said--my gelding is allergic to insect bites and he can stand on three legs and bite his sheath cause it itches. This causes it to swell.

if i remember correctly there is a pasture weed that comes out this time of year and it could be his issue.. they have allergys to it and sheath and some times other areas swell ..

Yes we have a lot of gnats! It's pretty annoying when your outside. I was thinking insect or allergy. I will try putting Vaseline on him and see if that helps. Thank you!!
